It's with great sadness that I report the passing of Greg Deimling. I'll post more details as soon as Greg's wife Jo lets me know.

Mr. Deimling brings a unique set of skills and abilities to each assignment. He is well versed and competent in a variety of fields. This unique combination of hands on learning, formal training, volunteer and civic involvement coupled with life experiences provides the client a solid return for their consulting investment. He has been in…

For a number of years, we used to get together a couple of times a year for a few days at Greg's lake house in KY where we'd sit, drink Jack Daniels, PBR, wine, and Coke or lemonade while discussing and arguing about insurance coverage issues, court decisions, and related topics. Our wives were out on the pontoon boat and thought we were crazy. Of the 4 of us, only I remain in this space-time continuum.

Bill, I knew that Greg had been very ill.  I was fortunate to have worked with him on some issues involving common interest communities.

Bill,

Again my condolences on the loss of your dear friend and colleague.

Greg was always a ray of sunshine and a character when we visited.  I was just looking at an old email from Greg – dated 11/1/2004….where he humorously carried on and then told me his friends call him Greggie but I could use his first name “Mr.”.  Thus I refused to ever call him Greggie though I valued his friendship. 😉

Mailing address for Jo would be appreciated.

Chin up Bill.

That is a sad note. It is unpleasant to have nobody left around the table. I did not know Greg, but I would have welcomed the opportunity to meet him.

I had interactions with John and Don and you, and I didn't mind finding out clearly and convincingly how much I had yet to learn.

Best wishes to all the Riskateers, wherever you might be!

I’m sure a lot of brain power at work when you got together.

Great legacy !

I’m sorry that they are not here , but they passed the torch to you to carry on.

I didn't know Greg, but I'm sorry to hear of your loss.

It's weird how the greatest insurance minds managed to come up with such
amazing insurance thoughts via the power of booze, though. I remember
discussing operative clauses with triple trigger triggerage and the
complications of the manifestation trigger with a number of esteemed
colleagues at 3am in a hotel bar many years ago.

The millennials, and Gen Z in particular, have a lot to learn from us
oldies. They need to start tapping into that knowledge soon, though,
because either death or retirement is removing us from the knowledge
pool. That's a hint to any young 'uns on RiskList that I'm up for a beer
if they want to buy me one. But it's also a slightly serious note that
the knowledge doesn't last forever.

Bill Wilson has written his book and Barry Zalma does his Claim School
thing, but that isn't quite the same as talking to someone face to face.
I could devour all of Barry's content but I probably learnt more from
him during an hour or two having a beer or two in a bar in London when
he was over in the UK dealing with a fairly substantial - and quite
probably fraudulent - insurance claim. (Oh look, I've lost my $3,000,000
diamond ring which fell off my finger while I was out on the lake
fishing...)

So maybe we need to use this as a lesson to try harder to share what we
know with the young 'uns?

That doesn't bring Greg back so we'll have to accept that raising a
glass to him is all we can do, but I suspect that if part of his legacy
was that the knowledge he'd shared during his life was shared more
widely now, that might be a Good Thing?
