Hello Joel, we met a couple of years ago at the IACA Conference on Cape Cod.
I recently returned to work for the City of Tempe – Police Department running the Strategic Planning, Analysis & Research Center (SPARC); and I am recruiting candidates for an applied research analyst position within my unit. I was wondering if you had any graduate students who might be looking for work that are proficient in applied research and statistics.
Here is what I am sending out – feel free to forward it to any interested students or other researchers you think might be interested…
*************************************************************************************************************
My name is Noah Fritz, and I am the Strategic Planning, Analysis and Research Center (SPARC) Supervisor. We have a Police Planning and Research Analyst (applied researcher) position open in the Center. I am actively recruiting interested candidates for the job, particularly graduate students (M.S.) who are interested in living in Arizona and getting some practical experience in applied research. The Department is in the process of implementing Intelligence Led Policing.
We can hire undergraduate students as well who have recently graduated or will be graduating this year. I am also in the process of breathing life back into our internship program, and would be happy to sponsor any student interns. Please respond to this email if you are interested in discussing the possibilities.
For now, please forward this email to interested or potential candidates. Attached is the job description.
The salary ranges from $48k to $74k, depending on education and work experience. The position is basically an applied researcher working on a team looking at crime and criminality within our community. We hope to develop action research initiatives that helps the department develop operational strategies, investigative focus, policy development and situational crime prevention efforts, plus offer programmatic evaluation and assessment of our efforts. It deals with real time crime and criminals, and finding ways that applied research can directly affect actionable decisions on the street. If this is of any interest to you from an employment or a research aspect, please contact Dr. Fritz.
Please do not let the generic job description be your guide. The future of the unit will focus on prolific offenders, GIS forecasting and prediction, and hotspot analysis. Please call me directly at 720-480-1097 or email me directly if you or the students would like to discuss the more robust nature of the job and the direction of the Center.
