I completely disagree with the premise here. Royalties paid to
musicians will still exist -- they just won't look the the old way of
doing business. Some one or some company or maybe even this forum
will come up with Indie Internet Radio where a fan can subscribe
monthly or annually and the artist can collect royalties through
direct licensing. It may 'feel' like royalty free, but what if each
musician on the network, by contributing their content (music), was a
part owner and subsequently shared in the revenue of the
subscriptions? Sounds like royalties to me, just not in the
traditional format. If we make music 'feel like free', I believe
music has a bright future and lively second life - the difference is
that the Indies will pave the way to a new radio model.
Any thoughts?
