Hurray!  We are connected.
Thanks Dani for hooking us up.

I'm super excited about the group this year and feel confident about your participation in the program.

"Valentine's Day" was last week and I'm sure at least a few of you did something nice for someone else to show them how much you love and care for them.

I've created the first RWL Holiday called "Love Myself and Be Selfish Day".  Sadly Hallmark hasn't caught up to me yet but don't let that stop you.
So February 21st is the day.  How will you celebrate?  How will you take care of yourself?  What will you take off your plate or say no to?  You have permission to be selfish.  If anyone gives you a hard time tell them it's part of an assignment you have to do for a class you're taking.

I'd love to hear from you on Friday for an update on what you decide to do and the results you experienced.

Be Well and Take Care,
Suzann

Hi all~
Thursdays are a tough day for "Love Myself and Be Selfish Day", but I did my best. I woke up early and went to my exercise class (I do MMA, which is pretty fun). After work, I opted to go out for dinner instead of making dinner because it was a long, crazy day with obligations in the evening. When I finally got home last night, I spent time curled up with a book instead of cleaning, laundry, etc. So I just made a few small choices differently yesterday that helped me take care of myself and have a better day.

Thanks for encouraging us to do this and excited to hear what others did

Happy Friday!

Gretchen, thanks for sharing your day with us!

Love Myself & Be Selfish Day was an interesting one for me.

I took the evening off and met a few friends I hadn't seen in a while for dinner...we had some delicious food and some even better conversation - which is what I really needed.  It has been an exhausting couple of weeks for me, so it was great to get out and be able to vent with some good girlfriends!

I also took the DISC assessment yesterday, and the results of that confirmed the thoughts I was having after dinner with my friends - I don't do this nearly enough.

So, as a result, a lot of thinking went on last night for me - and I'm really grateful I took the time to do so - thank you for the encouragement!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Janelle

HI everyone -

(Gretchen - MMA sounds really interesting!)

Soooo...Selfish Day did not start off well. Much of my job is contingent on the MI Legislature and they decided that Self Day was a good time to call a House Committee Hearing on a bill that I am working on. So off to Lansing I went, ruining my plan to go to lunch by myself and read a book.

However! I managed to get the day back on track by squeezing in a late lunch on my drive home - stopping to sit and enjoy rather than eating while driving, and then after a few more meetings I went home early, and watched TV and fell asleep at 930 pm. No dishes, no email, no nothin'!

It was really nice. I did notice, however, that "having to be selfish" ended up as another item on my to-do list for the day....sigh.

Hey Everyone,

LM & BS Day turned out to be a long needed "lay around and be lazy evening". I just got back in town Wednesday night from a 6 day conference in Dallas. My daughters are spending time with their grandparents for winter break, my house was a disaster and it would have been the perfect time to get the house back in order. However,  I celebrated my day (after work) by laying on the couch in my Jammie's reading my new Vogue magazine while watching as many back-to-back Mad Men episodes as I could! I'm not gonna lie, it was fabulous!

Thank you!!

Brook

OK - So we all know that it is very difficult to find "me" time (hence the assignment) and yesterday was nearly impossible. After work, my husband had a work meeting, so I was with the kids for dinner. They are both sick, so we shared a bowl of mac & cheese. Then, turned the music up and had a small dance party in the kitchen! I got the kids ready for bed and watched some "kid shows" with them.  THEN, poured a glass of wine and watched Project Runway...all by myself! It was amazing, until my daughter ran in the room and threw-up all over (mac & cheese)! Until next time....I will keep trying to do little things for me.

I did, however, have a great time last weekend in Chicago celebrating my birthday with just my husband. That definitely makes up for yesterday!  And, I went out for dinner and drinks with friends on Wednesday at Reserve.

Hmmm. You will all come to learn I am the rule breaker. Haha. I didn't follow the rules in giving in to this day. I said yes to everything except giving myself the time I deserve.

Let's see...I worked and said yes to taking on another assignment. I worked out and wanted to stay at the gym longer but said yes to attending a community event. I wanted to close the night with a bottle of wine, yes I said bottle...but got caught up in planning spring break for my boys. Envious of you ladies who had the ability to follow this homework assignment. Clearly I have a lot to learn from all of you :)

Great to hear about your experiences!
I'm curious to know what you learned from the experience and how it may change how you view being "selfish".
Give it some thought- I'll check in with you at our March meeting.

IT'S NOT TO LATE……if you didn't celebrate on Thursday pick an upcoming day for LM&BS day, as coined by Brook!

Thursday’s selfish day was tough for me too. Between work, gymnastics night and the kindergarten round-up meeting, my “me” time came around 9 p.m. and I went to bed J

We had no plans this weekend and filled it with all things that we love to do – hiking, skiing/snowboarding, Just Dance and dinners with friends. I left the taxes info on the desk (April 15 is a ways away yet), did no laundry….  just enjoyed the weekend.

I do need to be better at enjoying (not just surviving) the week days. I put on my calendar to celebrate LM&BS day the third Thurs. of every month. Not just Feb. Maybe practice will make perfect.
