Friends,

Found a great property for our reunion: Atali Ganga, run by AquaTerra. It has excellent reviews on Google and TripAdvisor.

It had cottages, surrounded by forest. For activities, one rafting trip is included. Also bus will be arranged from Delhi. Cost is approximately 29.5K assuming 20 people join.

December is a busy time, so I am planning to book it soon. There are a limited number of spots, 20, first come first serve.

Please let me know your interest soon (preferably by this Sunday 25 Aug), so I can secure the reservation.

Hope to see you there.

Kiran

Pannu, Vaibhav Kala, founder of Aqua Terra, is a good friend. Very good guys. Went rafting with them almost 20 years ago.

Shame I won’t be able to make it – enjoy the break.

Hi Kiran.

Thanks for the fantastic effort in taking this forward.

I was at Ataliganga a couple of months back. It is a superb property for a family but not so great for a college reunion. Two shortcomings :-

1)      The property is on a hill side sloping down to the highway. The cottages are built well spaced apart in a double decker style. So on twin sharing we would be occupying 5 cottages (4 people in each). The isolation and long up and down walks on the hill-side is very tiresome and not conducive for get-togethers.

2)      The Ganges flows on the other side of the highway and is quite a way down. Effectively, it is not accessible by an easy walk. So the idea of bonfires and long walks along the river in the night would be a non-starter.

I suggest you have a look at “Glasshouse by the Ganges”. I have only seen it from outside but it has great reviews and is a very exclusive property. It’s also at Shivpuri, so not so far from where Ataliganga is. However it’s directly above the Ganges, so it’s like having a private beach to chill out on. If they don’t want to do the bus transport, it’s not a deal breaker as it can be easily arranged from Delhi.

Sorry if I am creating a complication!

Cheers,

Rajesh Maheshwari

We have done Rishikesh earlier and I have been to almost all these places. Another white water rafting in midst of winter is also putting me off ! We need to hang out more and catch up with some small side activities.

What about Chakrata

My two paise of why I am still considering joining this trip.

With lots of love,

Rangan

Hi Joshi and Rangan,

Thanks for your suggestions.

I will explore some more options:
- stay in Rishikesh without rafting
- Chakrata seems interesting - It seems to be restricted to foreign nationals due to the cantonment.

Bhai log,
Please understand that Pannu is doing arrangements even though he is not joining the trip. Let us make his life easy. Settle on an option and lock it. Participating in specific activities should be left to individual preference. Agree that White Water Rafting at that time of the winter is a non-starter (given cold Ganga water). Other than that, everything is a fair play.

Idea is to chill (as Raabert mentioned). Khaana, Aag (Bahar aur dil ke andar) and daroo is all we need to chillax.

Hi Guys,

A lot of you are foreign nationals...so Chakrata is out.

I wasn't planning on joining. But now I am sorely tempted.
If we don't do Rishikesh how about Jim Corbett or even Rajaji will life sanctuary?

Pros; new trip, wild life, not very far from Delhi or Roorkee, accessible by train, I can try to arrange.

Cons: no booze allowed inside the sanctuary...but then when did we follow rules?, if we want to have 2 nights of booze and bonfire then we do not stay inside the sanctuary but just outside the gates where there are numerous resorts.
Go on safari in morning....drink in evening.

Any views?

I like the plan proposed by Shaleen,
Stay outside the sanctuary in a resort, so that we have both the options open. Safari would be a good experience with the group and nothing can beat the evening rounds of drinks and some music.

Warm regards

The idea is to have a good comfortable place so we can get together and spend time together.  Rishikesh works best in terms of minimizing the driving time, maximizing the time we have together, and a comfortable stay.

Also we need to make the bookings soon, December being a busy time for travel.

If folks disagree, that is fine, someone else can take the initiative to arrange Jim Corbett.

My proposal is to go with Rishikesh (~25-27K) for stay at Atali Ganga. Atali has excellent reviews. We took out rafting, as it will be cold. I am planning to book by Sep 5th.

Let me know what you think.

There are two registrations going on simultaneously:

For the Pearl Jubilee, Dec 20-22, which Ankur mentioned. The signup link is here. Everyone coming to Pearl Jubilee needs to sign up.

For the pre-trip at Rishikesh, Dec 18-20, for which you need to send the money to me only if you are coming to Rishikesh. Please see Citibank instructions sent earlier.

I am going to stop ccing the large roorkee89 list (and only email the folks who are coming), so that we do not spam other folks.
