Praise the Lord,
Easter Blessings to all, especially our beloved sisters and brothers in Sri Lanka.
I recently came across a reflection on the power of the 'Spirit of Mourning' and with your permission would like to share some of those thoughts as we pray for Sri Lanka.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted (Matthew 5:4)
What is mourning in the spirit? It is not an external look of sadness or tears of self pity, rather an internal calling to mourn in the spirit until God intervenes. There is a mourning, a groaning until God comes. When God places within us a mourning cry to move the power of God, then He sends a revival.
When the spirit brings us into this attitude of mourning over lost souls, failures and injustices, until we go into the presence of God with that mourning spirit, nothing much can happen. But when that happens renewal is coming.
I recall once Bro Lalith shared a message on how Prophet Elijah travailed until He saw the miracle right before his eyes. He took the position similar to a woman giving birth. God answered his prayers.
God's heart is in the place of intense passion.
Jesus mourned over Jerusalem. He saw the conditions and unbelief but God gave a promise that He would see "the labour of His soul, and be satisfied" (Isa 53:11).
What happened on the day of Pentecost was a result of His travail.
The Bible says, "But the Holy Spirit prays for us with sighs (groanings) that cannot be expressed in words." Romans 8:26. That's when the Holy Spirit takes over our prayers and we are praying by ourselves any more, there is someone praying through us, showing us what to pray for and how to pray.
In this hour may be we are called to travail for Sri Lanka, until we see a glimpse of breakthrough, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, for He did say, "Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty." (Zech 4:6)
In our personal prayers let's enter into a spirit of mourning and travail for SL for God is faithful.
God bless,
Sandra (Hobart)
