Alsotried to add the printer as a windows printer using the advanced printer driver 4 which installs and creates an LPT1 port, but although listed in printers and faxes within windows, the error says no connection. I also tried to add the printer as a serial port COM1 but the same problem within Windows.
If you are using a serial interface to the printer that may be causing some of the delay. It seems to me that the receipt should print as fast as the Z report, so I would make one last look through the receipt properties and make sure that all fonts are set to Epson built-in fonts (maybe I missed one), the thinking here being that the receipt may be using a font that the Z report is not, thus slowing the receipt.
Z Report is like machine gun fire. standard receipts are slow off the mark, but then quite quick. Much improved!! I would say that the till receipts take about 10 seconds to print. They are much happier.
Marc, Youre and absolute genius!! Printer and cash drawer working, but the printing speed is REALLY slow. Is there any way of speeding up the printer, as the cash drawer opens immediately after transaction....but then you have to wait 1 minute for the receipt to print.
I am trying to figure out how to send esc/pos commands to my T88V printer along with the receipt (ticket) to do various things, such as print out the logo stored inside the printer or coupons stored inside the printer, similar to the way the kick drawer is controlled from inside Unicenta.
I know that I can use the advanced printer driver to set up printing stored coupons/logos, however this method would mean that every ticket would print out the logo/coupon, whereas I specifically need the choice of which ticket prints logo/coupon and which ticket doesn't (we only have one printer for kitchen, bar and receipts). Also the quality and speed of using the logo stored inside the printer is much higher than that from unicenta, and coupons are not available at all.
I have tried using a similar command as for the kick drawer in the printer, except with the binary that is for commanding the printer to print a logo (according to the epson esc/pos manual, function 62, p130):
Both actually. I was just talking about the logo as that is where I became stuck. I would like my standard logo when 'bills' are printed for customers, but not on the orders that print for the kitchen/bar (as already stated, we use one printer for everything, so setting up the epson advanced printer driver to print a logo on every receipt isn't suitable). I would also like to print coupons stored in the printer along with the final receipt 'bill' for the customer but not with all the other receipts.
However the quality of the logo when sent from the pc to the printer is much worse than storing it on the printer and printing it from printer memory (that is unless I'm doing something wrong). I was hoping to be able to fire off the memory of the printer using esc/pos commands placed in the printer scripts to print out what I'd stored in the printer in a similar way to how the cash drawer is controlled.
As for the coupon part, yes that is kind of what I wanted to do. In the epson advanced printer driver there is the ability to store coupons and print them off according to key words that are in the receipt, but like I said, I haven't got that far, still on the logo part.
It isn't really a Epson Advanced Printer thing, it's more about the ability to send out esc/pos commands from unicenta to the printer. The printer will automatically read these commands and do whatever the command says they should do. This is the way any cash drawer connected to a printer is opened from unicenta, using these esc/pos commands.
Once again, thank you for trying to kindly help me. Maybe someone else might know. I noticed on another topic from Sumilux that he was asking a similar question, and john l was researching the problem, but that topic went dead back in May of this year, without any outcome.
Have you tried browsing for the driver when you update the driver in device manager, instead of searching automatically? How about checking the cable connection between the printer and the till? Or try to change the driver TM-T88IV - Software & Document - Thermal line Printer - Download - POS - Epson
Once you downloaded the driver from the epson website, the Driver may be in a zip file format. You can extract that zip file to any locations you want. Have you also tried to ask your POS software vendor if they can tell you which driver version of your printer is compatible with their POS software?
Note: If you have installed and configured the printer driver as instructed and still have problems printing receipts over 11 inches in length, follow these instructions to modify your Point of Success receipt template:
Fast and Versatile Printing
The Epson TM-T88IV prints receipts at speeds of up to 200 mm per second for both text andgraphics - 25% faster than the Epson TM-T88III. With two-colour*, advanced graphic and barcode (PDF417 and QR code) printing capability, this printer provides highly customised receipts including logos and promotional messages. Its flexible page mode gives you a choice of receipt layouts. *Max. two-colour printing speed is 100 mm/sec. *To print in two colours, users must load dedicated thermal paper and set the printer to the two-colour printing mode.
Compact Design
The Epson TM-T88IV has a small footprint that allows for flexible placement on your counter or wall (using an optional wall-hanging bracket), freeing up valuable counter space. Furthermore, the Epson TM-T88IV offers an improved paper cover design for increased spill resistance. Two case colours (Epson Cool White or Epson Dark Grey) are available to suit your needs.

I have an older Epson USB TM-T88IV receipt printer that is basically new. I would really love to get it working with Square. I was able to connect it via USB to a Raspberry Pi and then share it via AirPrint so it would be networked. The printer displays in iOS when I try to print to an AirPrint printer, but not in square. I then set the printer to the default printer in the Pi's CUPS print server so if you print to that IP it would be directed to the printer. When I went into square and clicked advanced for Epson printers, I put in the IP address, but still nothing.
Square looks to support AirPrint. With the Pi/CUPS acting as an intermediary and supplying the Bonjour service, shouldn't Square see the printer just as iOS does? My understanding is that this basically uses Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) to create a driverless solution. If Square prints to AirPrint and my AirPrint Pi passes the job along to my printer, shouldn't this work regardless of the printer connected? Square should just see an AirPrint printer, be unaware of what's on the other end and just print using the AirPrint protocol.
I can understand the IP direct part not working as even though the printer is the default for the print server; printing to the IP directly would require drivers and the printer to be natively supported by Square. Using AirPrint doesn't require drivers, other than the support of the AirPrint protocol so shouldn't this work?
I personally have used Raspberry Pi but never tried a configuration like this one. While Square Point of Sale supports AirPrint compatible printers, I believe there might be a slight difference in the process of adding AirPrint vs AirPrint being natively included in the Printer Hardware.
If Square can print to a device that receives AirPrint protocol, shouldn't that be to ANY device that supports AirPrint? It is a protocol so it should be standardized as the point is to be driverless. If I have a Pi in the middle, Square should see this as any printer that supports the AirPrint protocol (like iOS does) and be blind to whatever is behind AirPrint. If there were different configurations AirPrint wouldn't work with any printer that supports AirPrint without needing additional configuration. Since it is Apple's "Zeroconf," in theory, this should work.
My understanding (from my knowledge) is that if the PI and the tool that is providing AirPrint support is not currently getting an IP from the network the Square Point of Sale app will not be capable to use it at this time.
In simple words. The printer needs to have its own IP address (assigned by the tool you're using) so that it's detected by the Square Point of Sale app. Our product team is aware of this and working on a fix that will be released later this year.
Thanks for the reply. So I understand there are issues with statically assigned IPs and AirPrint. If I were to setup the Pi to use DHCP and be dynamic would this potentially work? Are there any other hostname, domain name, etc. settings of pertinence? I will look and see if changing the IP settings does anything. Thanks.
iOS fired off a bunch of broadcasts in a short amount of time utilizing the router for the broadcast, where Square only had a few broadcasts and they came directly from my iPhone. In any case, both located my printer quickly so I am at a bit of a loss why it isn't appearing in the Square app if the IPP protocol is returning my printer information. There was also some additional data that was returned from the Square brocast, but it did not decode properly so I am unsure if that is pertinent or not.
