Ive tried to reset the printer (turn on and off/unplug and wait) but it does not seem to help in any way. I've taken out and reinserted the ink cartridges again and again, but that isn't helping as well. Lastly, I've tried to take out the printhead/ reseat it three times aready, but the problem persists.
I was getting the same error message on my HP 8600 Officejet Pro Model N911a. I downloaded the software to trouble shoot and tried to fix it, did everything twice and no luck. Called tech support and paid the $25 and went thru it with support and they couldn't help. Replaced cartridges, cleaned printhead and still nothing. Bought a new printer. After a week I turned the HP 8600 on and this time I got an empty cartridge message (Y) and I went and bought a new cartridge and it worked.
Maybe the ink cartridge was just at the point where it didn't register "out" but was. The printhead was fairly dirty so that may have helped. This printer was a replacement for the first one I purchased but had a ADF error.
I was having the same error message. After reading your post, I checked my ink cartridges and one seemed empty plus that one was a refurbished cartridge. I bought a new HP cartridge today and my printer is working fine now!! Thank you so much!! You have saved me who knows how much money trying to figure it out, plus the time and aggravation! And the cost of buying a new printer! Thanks again!!
I tried following the step by step guide. The step to start the automatic cleaning is not possible as the right arrow does not engage a change to the screen content. We continue to get the same errors.
I too received this error message and, after reading everyone else's posts, replaced just the black ink cartridge (HP genuine replacement) and recycled the power (just the on/off button, not the plug, as HP's troubleshooting guide indicated). Tested the printer and it worked fine - what a relief.
Found something that worked for me.. tried all the recommended steps but nothing worked until I noticed that one of my cartridges (Cyan) felt nearly empty. Replaced the cartridge and it worked! The printer was doing an automatic cleaning immediately before this error happened, and perhaps because one of the cartridges was empty this triggered the error. But who knows... anyway this worked for me! Some have said that replacing the cartridges didn't work for them.
One thing I did (not sure why this would have helped tho) is I took the cartridge out before I turned off the printer, by mistake (took out the cyan cartridge, then pressed the off button instead of unplugging it.) So I watched my print head minus my cyan cartridge safely nestle itself on the right hand corner of the printer before it shut off, which if I'm not mistaken is a no-no (having a partially empty print head). Of course when I turned on the printer it gave me a stern warning not to have cartridges missing. Maybe this helped reset it?? (Probably not, but I would rather try anything than buy a new printer... ) and then when I put in the new cartridge (which was not genuine HP it worked. Ta da!
I already knew that I needed to change the cartridge, I was waiting for it to go on empty. It must have went on empty. I had the same error. Came to this page and figured out it was the yellow that was empty and changed it. I am happy the problem wasn't bigger than what it was. Good Luck everybody!
I had the same problem occur. After reading the comments I removed the four ink cartridges and noticed the Magenta was empty. I placed back the other three cartridges and turn off the printer with the Magenta slot still empty. Once I turned the printer back on the error message changed from "printer failure" to saying that the Magenta ink cartridge was missing.
I get the message "Printer Failure There is a problem with the printer or ink system" (no error code). It had been working for a year or so, suddenly this message appeared. We didn't move it, we did not connect to a new network or do anthing to it's wifi or connectivity. And we did not replace cartridges. It just did this all by itself, suddenly. On startup, i get the normal control panel for less than 2 seconds then this message appears. I CANNOT get back to the control panel to do anything, because all I get is this message. If I click on the ? next to the screen, it tells me to (1)unplug and restart the printer. (2) contact HP support. So I cannot see any displays, and I cannot print a test message from the printer, and I cannot update the firmware, because I'm locked out.
1.When I turn it off, unplug, replug, the printhead moves fine, I hear it as normal. But all the while the error message is displayed. If I unplug it without turning it off, and plug back in, the same.
4. I removed the printhead, it looked fine (there was a LOT of black ink on the contacts, but the black cartridge did not appear to be leaking when I examined it). I replaced the printhead, and it did the same. I then reseated the print head twice more, and it did not help.
I'm unable to do any of the other things you suggest because I do not have access to the printer control panel. The error message comes up whenever the printer starts. The control panel flashes for less than 1/2 second and then the error message is there and I don't have access to any printer functions.
There is supposed to be a way to update the firmware from Smart Print but I could not find that option. The software finds the printer and says it's installed, but shows the error on the software too. I tried "reset to factory defaults" but Smart Print just hangs and nothing happens. But after that I now have a flashing blue light and "network connection error" so I can't connect to the printer at all.
After the last reset, now the printer is offline. It appears online at the printer, as the blue light is steady. But HP Smart shows it offline. HP Print and Scan Doctor says it cannot communicate with the device. The device shows up on both programs, so they are there on the network, but neither HP Smart nor HPPSCDR are able to communicate with it. And still, at the printer, I cannot get to the control panel because the error message is onscreen and won't go away.

I did as you asked, even though i knew this would not work. The problem is NOT in a computer or driver, it's in the printer. The printer does not respond to anything. I have repeatedly power cycled it, and unplugged and replugged. Everytime I do this, The printer immediately displays "Printer Failure".
When I go to that link, it asks for the serial number, tells me it's out of warranty, and gives a link to come back here. But it's ok, I've seen enough. You have been very helpful. I wanted to go through every possible step to see if this was fixable, as a test case. This is the 2nd all-in-one HP printer we've had fail recently. So we are going to move all our offices and customers to another brand of printer, since this is an unacceptable failure rate (about 50% fail within 1 year). But wanted to give HP every chance to see if it was something fixable. But it is not.
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).
If you are unfamiliar with how the Community's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

3D printers are seriously cool, but as of right now, they are new technology and pretty unreliable. I have a year of 3D printing experience, and I have tried and failed again and again trying to print various models on my printer. However, after failing that many times I have learn a thing or two about settings and tricks to get 3D prints right the first time. If you have any questions, ask away in the comments, and please vote for me if this is helpful!
This is probably one of the most common ways any 3D print can fail. 3D printers work by building up objects layer by layer, and if the layers come off of the bed, you usually end up with plastic spaghetti instead of a clean printed part.
Another common fail is over extrusion. Over extrusion happens when your 3D printer pushes out too much plastic too fast, causing a jam in the end of the nozzle. This jam builds up more and more until the hotend stops extruding altogether, leaving your print unfinished.
The best way to stop under extrusion is checking you nozzle for clogs, and increasing the hot end temperature. I suggest increasing it in five degree increments until you get a part that has good strength and good nozzle flow.
Take a piece of letter paper, normal weight, and fold it in half. Place it under your 3D printers' nozzle and home the hotend onto the paper. The paper should be sandwiched between the bed and nozzle. Now, try to slide it out from under the nozzle. If the paper moves freely, the nozzle is too high above the print bed. If there is too much resistance (you have to pull firmly on the paper to free it), the nozzle is too close to the print bed.
What I meant by my previous post is that when you returned the printer to Bambu, your screenshot says that Bambu will pay for the cost of shipping the defective printer back to them. But they also said that if they determine that it was not their fault, then they would charge you for the shipping costs of sending the defective printer back to them.
My father has used this printer for the last few years, it's a great printer, although a bit slow in general. He notified me of it not working. I checked, and searched it up, and saw the numerous amounts of posts on this issue. This is a house printer, and always needs to be available to print work invoices, school stuff, and more.
I saw that Canon had released a new firmware. It initially didn't wan't to update, always saying the printer wasn't connected. After restarting the computer, that was fixed, I went through the update process, and it gets about 95% finished and tells me the update failed.
I'm now stuck here looking at a printer that now only has a flashing alarm light. Unplugging it does nothing, and leaving it unplugged for an hour or 2 also did nothing. The usb didn't get unplugged, the power didn't get touched.
Canon has basically bricked this printer, A firmware update should not be needed, it should have never had an issue, since this printer hasn't been updated for years, sitting at version 2.0.3. Canon did this, and they know, the only way to break certain models of printers, is to send disable commands over the internet.
