People,
The time has come! The RIPUL 2026 Captain Application is now LIVE!!
2026 Captain Application
Anyone and everyone is encouraged to fill out the application if they want to volunteer to captain! You do not need to have a co-captain in mind when you sign up, and the Board can help you find a co-captain if you’d like. We know captaining can seem like a daunting task, but there are some great perks and a plethora of resources at your disposal to help (see application for details).
If you are on the fence about captaining, feel free to reach out to the Board (bo...@ripul.org) and a member will be happy to discuss the perks/responsibilities/etc with you! It’s always great to see new volunteers step up each year, so if there is anything we can do to help make that happen, we’d love to assist! We’d made some big changes to help captains out during the season, such as more draft resources & a small spirit prize stipend!
RIPUL 2026 SIGNUPS
Signups for RIPUL will go live on Friday April 3rd!! Signups will be open for 24 hours; no more mad dash to be the first one to sign up. There are a few caveats this year:
PAYMENT
We are accepting Paypal & Venmo as payment. If making a Venmo payment, please make it PUBLIC so it will be easier to recognize and check off that you have paid. You will receive an automated email within 2 days after signing up that your payment was received and accepted. This can get caught in spam filters, so be sure to check there.
BAGGAGES
Players can request to pair-up (baggage) with another player so long as they are: family, dating/married, a player with a new player (0-2 years in RIPUL), or carpooling (with consideration; please explain). All baggage requests will be reviewed by the League Operations Director & RIPUL Board. RIPUL is about meeting new people and playing different styles with different people. Baggage requests do not guarantee admission to the league, and will be reviewed after the lottery draw.
NUMBER OF TEAMS
Historically, we have played with 16 teams, hoping to get enough players (DoW [Defender of Women], DoM [Defender of Men], & DOC [Defender of Choice]) for each team. In the last few years, we have struggled to hit the quantity of DoW players that we would like, to have enough subs per team to play safely and prevent players from having to play savage or with limited subs. This year, we are going to base the number of teams around the number of DoW signups. This could mean that we may drop our number of teams down to 14 (or lower), which would be an incredible bummer. We would like to ask our players to help us recruit new DoW; spread the word, get more players interested, etc. We are doing this in the name of safety and gender equity. Our goal is to aim for at least 7 DoW/team for 16 teams (112), ideally getting each team to 8 (or more), which we have never done in the past. We would like to continue to play 4:3 ratio and not have to revert back to 5:2; our end goal (down the road) is to play full 4:3/3:4 mixed ultimate, but we know we are a little ways away from that. So help us get more DoW and grow our league!
YOUTH
While we have historically allowed youth (<18) to play in RIPUL, the Board is doing extensive research into what type of ‘precautions’ we need to take in permitting youth to play in our adult summer league. Once we have an official policy in place, we will let everyone know ASAP.
In the meantime, if you know of any youth/parents/guardians that would be interested, please have them know about this youth opportunity happening this summer (See attached)!
