Weigh in on this guy! I need a Boros card that isn't Figure, Charm, Helix, Vengeant, Stronghold.

he's a staple!! what a sweet card!!

try boros charm! try assemble the legion! GTC may not have shaken up constructed, but for cube it's been awesome!!

I'm running it and have been very impressed. It adds as much tension to combat math as you might expect.

On this statement, I can't help but agree. I was really disappointed when the Gatecrash cards were first spoiled; I think I counted a grand total of three cards I wanted in. Slowly, though, more and more unsung cards have come out of the woodwork and proven themselves. As far as second sets go, I think Gatecrash is on par or actually better with anything Wizards has released in the last five years or so.

yep, x1 and gyre sage and frontline (to name a few) are just always in for me now. it's encouraging and thrilling when cards turn out to be better designs than i ever expected (cavern of souls is the best example). it's humbling in exactly the way mtg should be.

if you run a lot of fixing, gtc is even sweeter!!! aurelia and obzedat!!!

Seems swingy. Either you have a lot of creature combat, in which he's pretty absurd, or you have creature v non-creature, in which he's a centaur courser. We've added in some GTC cards to our more standard cube, and Truefire Paladin is a lot more frightening than Reckoner.

I love Reckoner. It's 'hard to cast' in the sense that it rewards people who commit to red or white and can't be splashed, but the mana cost isn't restrictive for Boros decks in the way that Ball Lightning's or Spectral Procession's can be. It's a powerful card in general and even more so in a creature-focused Cube. There are some nice potential synergies with cards like Chandra Nalaar, Wildfires(/Devastating Dreams!), Firestorm, and the like (can anyone think of any more?). If you want to count it as a gold card, I think it's tied for #3 with Boros Charm and way ahead of Helix/Stronghold.

Chain Reaction, Crater Hellion, Slice and Dice, Slagstorm, Pyroclasm/Whipflare (he survives these too!), Pyrohemia (and pestilence, though I find hard to imagine a deck where you'd play both), Cinder Giant (janky combo ahoy!), Earthquakes, Nin and best of all, Pygmy Giant.

Volcano Hellion!

Volcano Hellion looks ridiculous in a good way. I wish my cube were set up for that type of thing.

Re: Blasphemous Act, I've been thinking about testing this card. It's clearly fun and splashy, but might not be very functional at my current power level.

jason: blas act too good or too bad? having played with it in standard, it's hard to imagine either! since you have gravecrawlers you presumably have blood artists, which is even more fun. the only issue is that red has some fun sweepers already, firespout, mizz mortars, and earthquake. i'm least fond of firespout and could see cutting it for the ol' 13 to everything

I suspect too bad, but honestly I've never cast the card. It feels fun and interactive though. Sometimes you want to play some dude the turn before to bring down the cost on the board wipe. It can also kind of be played around a bit. I'll pick one up in my next order (along with the Reckoner). Blasphemous + Reckoner feels rare and ridiculous enough to be a perfectly fun and exciting way to win a game. With only a single copy of each it will almost never happen, but the possibility will have people excited. And both cards work without the other (and in the same Boros control shell).

blas act is proving to be popular in standard, in both aggro and control shells, though i concede this is all because of reckoner and blood artist. IMO with your own death triggers, gravecrawler triggers, blood artists and so forth you've got all the support you need for this bizarre gem.

I've had great success with him. I actually removed helix for him, because while both cards dominate creature mirrors, reckoner is way cooler in my eyes :P
Derugar Hedge Mage is a nice value guy if you're looking for that sort of thing, and Firemane Avenger has been on my radar for a while now, ever since it got Act of Treasoned at the prerelease, only to helix itself when it attacked :P

have you tried avenger? i can't imagine cutting aristocrat, huntmaster, bloodbraid, rampager, hellrider, hero of oxid ridge, and the huge mono-white 4-drop section for her, but am interested
