Hi,

I was wondering if it would be possible to issue secured cards backed
by Ripple credits.

Looking around the web I found systems like this
http://www.paidbycash.com/pbc/

that perhaps we could imitate.

What does a credit union have to do to be able to issue matercards?

Can I issue a mastercard or visa to be trusted friends?

I'm pretty sure becoming a credit card issuer involves putting up a
fair bit of capital, among other things, but if you were willing to,
there's probably no reason you couldn't issue cards backed by Ripple
credits, or accept Ripple credits as payment for credit card charges.
I'm not sure I see the point of it though.

The only point would be to allow us to use ripple credits at any
merchant that accepts visa or mastercard. I'm not saying that it
would be efficient. Just a temporary bridge between the the systems.

There are probably card issuers who would let you somehow "sponsor" a
friend to get a credit card, if they couldn't do so on their own,
making you jointly responsible for its use. Then you could pay the
bills and keep track of the debt on Ripple...
