Perhaps the ripple project could persuade the Penny Arcade creators to
get permission to use this strip on the ripple webpage?

Great strip -

it really gets the essence of what Ryan calls "personal ripple"...

By the way - as a way of promoting the use of Ripple and generally
spreading the word to a larger audience, has anyone considered
creating a social network on NING?

The interaction between members is more agile and the features are
better than mailing lists like google or yahoo.

It could stimulate a wider discussion.

Some examples of ad hoc communities that are using Ning (that I'm
involved in) are:

http://openmoney.ning.com/

http://p2pfoundation.ning.com/

http://healthfreedomnet.ning.com/

Check it out.

I participated a bit on openmoney.ning.com, and I can see that there
are some extra social-network-type features, but I'd be hesitant to
open yet another site about ripple, and the existing newsgroups are a
good archive of past discussions.

I think what's important is simply spreading the idea. Ryan shouldn't have to do any housekeeping--we can create any groups we want wherever we want and work them on our own.

We could take advantage of a lot of the great social services coming out, so let's do that. We don't need Ryan's permission to tell people about Ripple and we don't need his participation since we can simply point people to the list archives or to sign up themselves to help answer the tough questions.

Grassroots organization doesn't happen from the top-down. A resilient community is composed of a lot of smaller autonomous groups that carry out the main goal of the community itself--in our case that means talking to people about how money works and how to solve the problem (and that we find Ripple to be the best shot).

So go ahead and do that.

Ryan,

I was disappointed with the open money group as the people who started
it did not even want to look at anything else than what they are
proposing. Michael told me in a private message that I should stop
posting that kind of information - it was distracting.

I understand that you wouldn't want to be the one to make a group.
Perhaps someone on this list could start it.

Myself, I won't do it as I already have two or three of them to take
care of, in addition to other websites.

So - do we have a volunteer to go to www.ning.com and register and
then start a network to promote Ripple? I'll join, but I won't be the
one to start it out.

Ryan,

So are you going to add "Lunches" to the list of Ripplepay payment
units or what?
