I have an old Canon LiDE 90 scanner that works with no problem under Windows 7. Currently I am in a process of switching from Windows (7) to Ubuntu (18.10). One of my problems is that I cannot use my scanner in Ubuntu. When I connect this scanner to Ubuntu it is not recognized by the scanner software that comes with Ubuntu. I know that my scanner is not supported by the Sane Project in Linux: -project.org/unsupported/canon-lide-90.html
By the way, when I contacted Canon for help because their scanner wasn't working, they told me that they "don't support Linux". I replied by pointing out that they had taken the time to supply a driver, so surely they would want to make sure it actually worked when people installed it. But they simply repeated that they "don't support Linux".
1) VueScan ( ) - Easy to install and use scanner software (no drivers needed) that will support a large range of scanners. Unfortunately, it's a bit pricey ($40 for a standard license, $80 for a professional license). You can use the unpaid version if you don't mind having watermarks on all of your scans.
2) TWAIN SANE ( -sane/) - I chose this option. It's free, but it is a bit more cumbersome to install. The installation packages, essentially, create a driver that will allow your computer to recognize your device. Once installed, OS X's built-in "Image Capture" app will become your scanner's primary interface.
I have altogether a different experience. Got a CanonScan Lide 100, for which no driver is available for my new Imac with ML OS X 10.8.5. I simply connected the scanner, opened system preference, Printer and Scanner and wow....there appeared the scanner, clicked and opened it, started scanning as usual. Very very simple. Try it folks. Good Luck.
I have an old Canoscan Lide200. I know that the drivers have not been updated and will never be updated but I can still use mine. I go to control panel and tap 'scan'. This will return a message that the scanner is not responding. I close the window and do the same thing a second time. This time, it works.
At first you set up 'scanner' from 'system preference' --> 'Printers & Scanners' and add with + button, then CanoScan LiDE 200, then 'open scanner...', but after a while it says failed due to drivers broken or similar. but don't freak out please, actually I did.
When you open and unpack your Canon CanoScan LiDE 110 Scanner, it should work simply by plugging it into an empty USB slot. Sometimes, your scanner can experience issues communicating with your devices, if so, there is a good chance that you will need to update your driver.
Downloading and installing a scanner driver can be time consuming. To avoid time and frustration associated with driver updates, you can use a driver update tool to get your driver automatically updated in minutes with DriverSupport.

I have bought this software thank you. Now I have to get used to using it. I am still getting used to a new laptop and Windows 11 after 8 years of a desktop with Windows 8.1 (which now seems to be in the final stages of dying).
It's annoying Canon do not update their drivers as their software interface is actually quite good and quick to use. Sigh.

- If the OS is upgraded with the scanner driver remained installed, scanning by pressing the SCAN button on the product may not be performed After the upgrade. in such cases, re-install the scanner driver.
I got all set to upgrade my OS from 10.8.6 to this new Mavericks OS and I got a flag that my scanner was no longer going to work with this new OS. I did a bit of research and even contacted Canon about a new driver for this scanner that'll work with the latest Mac OS.... and nothing. For $40 or so I can get some sort of 3rd party "generic" scanner driver, but I'll loose some features that this one has (like transparency scanning) and I'll be paying far more than what I paid for the unit itself (it was free, I found it on the curb... really!).
Though I realize that the universe is clearly telling me that I'm SOL on finding the right driver for this old scanner of mine, I'm wondering if by some miracle the good folks on this forum might have a line on the correct driver that I wasn't able to find on the internet thus far... I like the scanner just fine and would like to upgrade to the new OS (which I haven't done yet in a large part because of this scanner issue).
I'm going to take an educated guess here and say that the driver is not (fully) compatible with Apple Silicon based Macs. Development has likely ended for this device though legacy driver support remains (see #3 below). Canon should either recompile the driver for Silicon or make a note on their website updating their supported platforms.
Ventura is listed as supported, but makes no mention of Apple Silicon. A (hardware) driver/kext supported under Mavericks isn't all that different than one supported by Ventura. Many times, the only changes that need to be made is to the payload plists for the new OS. Their website says that the driver works with Monetray and Ventura and given your experience, this is the case with Moneray on Intel.
This file is a TWAIN-compliant scanner driver for Canon color image scanner.
You can install the following items of the software:
ScanGear: The TWAIN-compliant scanner driver for Canon color image scanner.
IJ Scan Utility: The software that allows you to easily scan photos, documents, etc.
If you're using Windows and you've installed a Canon driver, VueScan's built-in drivers won't conflict with this. If you haven't installed a Windows driver for this scanner, VueScan will automatically install a driver.
Where possible, the drivers applicable to each device or classof devices is listed. If the driver in question has a manual pagein the FreeBSD base distribution (most should), it is referencedhere. Information on specific models of supported devices, controllers, etc. can be found in the manual pages.
Note: The device lists in this document are beinggenerated automatically from FreeBSD manual pages. This means thatsome devices, which are supported by multiple drivers, may appearmultiple times.
With all supported SCSI controllers, full support is providedfor SCSI-I, SCSI-II, and SCSI-III peripherals, including harddisks, optical disks, tape drives (including DAT, 8mm Exabyte,Mammoth, and DLT), medium changers, processor target devices andCD-ROM drives. WORM devices that support CD-ROM commands aresupported for read-only access by the CD-ROM drivers (such ascd(4)). WORM/CD-R/CD-RW writingsupport is provided by cdrecord(1), which is a part ofthe sysutils/cdrtools port in the PortsCollection.
The sis(4) driver supports SiliconIntegrated Systems SiS 900 and SiS 7016 based Fast Ethernetadapters and embedded controllers, as well as Fast Ethernetadapters based on the National Semiconductor DP83815 (MacPhyter)chip. Supported adapters include:
