When is the 0-byte VOB bug going to be fixed?

I had to rip Up (DVD from the Blu-ray package) with RipIt because Mac
DVD Ripper Pro can't handle intentionally bad directories that report
things like 58GB of data on your 8GB DVD. Unfortunately I got yet
another RipIt rip that has 0-byte VOBs, which as we all know are out
of spec and make DVD handling software freak out. I mention MDRP
because it doesn't produce 0-byte VOBs, so I've been using it lately
as my goto ripper. It won't be long before it's been a year this bug
has been in RipIt with no fix in sight.

Hi Randian,

Did you buy the 4 disc UP combo-pack? In which case, the dvd that comes in there, we will have to test. Otherwise, you might be trying to rip a digital dvd, which might only play in a PC and Ripit can't handle. Can you check that out?

Thanks!

Yes, the 4-disc Up combo pack. Blu-ray main title, Blu-ray Extras,
DVD, and Digital Copy.

I think we may have fixed the problem with the new beta release. Can you give that a try?

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks!

Ripped with the beta. Plenty of 0-byte VOBs. Notably, all of them
are *_0.VOB. I don't see any _1 or _2 VOBs that are 0-byte.

I also had a hang condition, which appeared after I changed the target
directory and pressed "Rip". I also got a "compression only supported
on Intel" popup even
though I didn't press the Compress button. That popup appeared before
the hang, after changing
the directory.

Are you testing exclusively on Intel machines? If you're seeing good
rips
and I'm not maybe there's an endianness bug somewhere.

Hi randian,

VOB Naming Conventions: VTS_XX_Y.VOB

XX is the title set number and Y is the VOB index within that title
set. The VOB files are the actual video object files, containing
video for that title set. Index 0 contains video for the title set's
menu, while the remaining indexes >=1 contain video for the movie/
content. Many title sets don't actually have playable menu video, as
they rely on the main menu video in the VIDEO_TS.VOB, so those files
is empty. Some burn software will complain if that file isn't there,
even though its not needed.

While I'm working on the IFO structures code, I am researching how I
can remove any dependencies on the file and leave it out completely
(if its possible without causing other compatibility issues). I'm
working feverishly to remove as many compatibility problems with the
rip's IFO data. Its my primary focus right now.

Kind regards,
Scott, TLAF
