This release is right behind the 1.3.3e release, but I wanted to get
the fix out for the Surrogates movie as quickly as possible. I'd been
held up for a few days with this disc while working the IFO issues in
1.3.3e.

ISBN 0-7888-9761-6
Surrogates

I ripped Surrogates with 1.3.3f, everything seemed fine but the only
way to see it is with VLC. DVD player, DVD2ONE and Toast can't use the
output.

I played Surrogates fine in iTunes and Quicktime X. So far 1.3.3f is
working great for me. The high quality setting seems out of proportion
to me though...

Handbrake 0.9.3
DVD Player 5.2

Both crash after ripping Surrogates with 1.3.3.f

Are you guys by chance on Intel or PPC based Macs? Do the ISBN
numbers match?

Here's a summary of my testing:
On my Intel, I can rip with 1.3.3f, playback in OSX DVD Player
(10.6.2), play in VLC (1.0.5), and transcode with Handbrake (0.9.4)
without error. My testing OSX DVD player included jumping around
menus, and playing the first 30 minutes normal, then scanning at x32
to the end.

Is anyone else having success with this disc on 1.3.3f?

Kind regards,
Scott, TLAF

Scott.

I'm using a MBP 2.66Ghz C2D, 4GB RAM.

Surrogates works with DVD Player and VLC no problems. It even
compresses nicely and plays back with Quicktime X, iTunes and VLC.

Haven't tested Handbrake as I'm trying to rely more on RipIt since
it's shaping up to be the one app that I use almost daily.

I'm testing it on my 2.26 C2D MBP with 4GB. I assume it'll work,
though, since Brandon's 2.66GHz MBP worked.

As an addendum, I'm also using Snow Leopard. I forgot to mention that.

Thanks everyone!

I'm wondering if the problem is on PPC machines ... I added some more
data structures to better handle time maps in the DVD structures. I
could have gotten the configuration of the structure off for little
endian byte ordering. I'll make a post requesting some PPC owners to
try a couple tests for me, and I'll look over the key points where
that might have been introduced.

Thanks again everyone!

* also, more progress today on compatibility, the errors are dropping
quite nicely. Hoping for another beta build soon.

I don't know if this is even a priority or not Scott, possibly a
suggestion for a feature. To have RipIt be able to reopen .DVDMEDIA
files and the option to Compress them (BTW, RipIt is all I've been
using lately for backups, I have a dedicated PC machine with AnyDVD
and CloneDVD, but since I'm deploying in April to Afghanistan I've
been using RipIt to backup my collection to my MBP).

The reason why I suggest the .DVDMEDIA conversion idea is because I
have a lot of .DVDMEDIA files before I started using Compress, just
seems futile to recopy everything...

Hi Brandon,

you know, the dvdmedia-extension means that you can just open them via ctrl-click, chose "open package" and there is a regular TS_VIDEO-folder inside you might drag out and then you can do whatever you want (and the quality of the ripping allows, e.g. handbrake).

Good luck in Afghanistan…

MacBookPro5,1 Intel 4GB Ram

Only way for me to view was to use Compress. Once I got a
working .mp4 but the file has 3 different points where it will crash
Quicktime each time

I know the .DVDMEDIA file is just a container, I'm just trying to stay
away from multiple applications and get the same output for all
videos. With RipIt I can just set it to HQ MP4 and go about my way.
With Handbrake I'm afraid it would resize and I'd like for all my
movies to be the same size (dimension wise, not space wise). I'm just
picky about consistency.

Hi Brandon,

We've casually talked about adding the ability but I'm not sure yet if
and when. I'm wrapping up the IFO compatibility issues now and will
be giving compress more focus on tightening it up. We also have the
video application Evom, which we're looking to release a version of
that supporting dvdmedia and video_ts as well. I wish I could give
you a more definitive answer, but we're not quite there yet. Thanks
for suggesting it though, as it gives more support for providing it.

Thanks,
Scott, TLAF

ps. Stay safe, and thank you.

Just my +1 for this feature. I currently use Handbrake with constant quality but I'm definitely interested to see whether RipIt can do a better job.
