I have the Beta Version 1.5.5.f.
Lion 10.7

No Strings Attached and Lincoln Lawyer...both failed.

Seems that every new movie is failing with RipIt.

Anyone have any recommendations on a better app that keeps up to date
better?

Have had some good experiences with MacX DVD Ripper PRO…same one you are noting, I think?

Possibly, disc icon with orange thunderbolt on top of it?

Oh I have that one too…the icon for the one I noted below is a disc with blue arrows on it.

If you have a windows machine or windows boot-camped, try DVDFab. It's
constantly updated and has handle everything I've thrown at it. As
much as I've moved away from using Windows, I keep it around just for
DVDFab because frankly I have yet to come across any DVD ripping
software on the mac side that's even close. I thought RipIt was great
but the lack of updates just turned me off. I wish I hadn't bought it.

It seems to be difficult to get a refund for RipIt.

I wouldn't consider it a major loss. I've suggested features that have been added to RipIt, but lately support isn't that great. I've been using my "Silent Night" PC (no fans, SSD) and use AnyDVD HD + CloneDVD 2, transfer the full video over to my Time Capsule then use DVDRemaster to edit it and enable forced subtitles (which RipIt can't do).

I feel like a traitor doing it this way, but lately I've had no other choice.

I've used the product for over a year and made use of it throughout so
I don't personally care for a refund. The last three months I've come
across more and more titles that don't work while those same titles
work fine with other DVD ripping software (eg. DVDFab, which is
updated almost every two weeks). With this sudden lack of updates I
just wish the developers would just come out and say "hey we're no
longer supporting the product full time, we will periodically update
it time-permitting" which would be fine. As it is, it's a little
misleading to still be selling the product IMO.

I think they pretty much stated that "in-so-many-words" when they
closed the previous forum, which was monitored more closely, and
opened this group. They mentioned that had other priority projects
that they were working on and would not be able to devote as much time
to maintaining RipIt. Did anyone else understand it this way?

I came at RipIt as a customer. I read their site: 99.9999% success rate. That percentage is no longer representative of the experience brand new buyers such as myself have been experiencing.

It says "guaranteed to work". But it does not and you cannot easily get a refund from The Little App Factory.

They are saying that a new version is coming soon...

I hate to say it, but not hearing from Scott doesn't give me ANY warm and fuzzes about a new version. Only time will tell, I mean RipIt has won tons of awards which would attract A LOT of negative publicity.

I've been using this software lately, it does DVD as well as Blu-Ray if you have a Blu-Ray drive:
It's not nearly as nice as Ripit as far as being able to set it up to rip the disc and eject automatically when finished.  You have to select the chapters to rip every time but it seems faster.

Well for anyone out there looking for a good replacement, I'd say the
wait is almost over. DVDFab for years have said that they're
developing a mac version but they've just announced DVDFab All-in-one
package for Mac and it'll be released in the Fall. On their forums,
some beta testers are saying that it may be released sooner, possibly
as early as Aug/Sep.

For those not familiar with DVDFab, IMO it's the best DVD ripping
software on the windows side and having tried so many on the mac side,
nothing comes close. It's so good in fact that I've kept a bootcamp
partition with windows on it on all my macs just for DVDFab. With this
announcement, I'll be able to get rid of windows for good (at home at
least).

Just tried Sucker Punch on RipIt.

No dice.

Thanks for the DVDFab update.

We can add the DVD "Rango" to the ever expanding list of "problem"
dvds that RipIt (1.5.5f) cannot handle.
