I love the Ripit app, but have been concerned about it's continued
support. I received an email from SWREG Digital River today offering
DVD Cloner for Mac 2 at a discounted price. So I downloaded and tried
it. Surprisingly it works really simply. It copies and burns in a
single move. I was impressed at how easy it was. While I'm still
hopeful that Ripit will continue to support their application, I now
have a backup in case they dump it. DVD Cloner doesn't save a
permanent file on your hard drive, so if you want to convert it, this
may not be the app for you.

Lets hope that TLAF continues to develop Ripit. I still prefer it
over DVD Cloner and MTR.

@LazerTag Agreed.

I think the number of ways DVD encoders can mix things up and make a DVD hard to get a perfect copy. That, combined with the number or releases vs. the amount of time it takes however many people at TLAF that work to break the encryption/crazy data on a new release, should explain why it could take some time to get that fresh off the press DVD cracked and copyable.

I say give them some time and they will get to your DVD of choice. Unless time is an issue because you really wanted to copy that DVD you got from netflix or redbox...but I'm sure you paid for your DVD right? So backing it up shouldn't be your top priority in life.

Maybe if some of the people bitching about app support would actually pay for RipIt (I don't mean you aweaton, sounds like you pay for your goods) TLAF could afford to add a full time DVD "examiner" to assist their main "examiner" *cough* heheh. What they do enables the rest of us make legit backups and smaller versions we can stream to our TVs, iDevices etc...

Anyway, it's all good. Speak truth and you are fireproof. Flame on.

I've paid for RipIt, and not too long ago.  I only found this forum after immediately running into troubles with some late 2010, early 2011 onward releases.

TLAF says some updates are coming.

In the meantime I personally think it is okay to discuss other software that may be able to handle contemporary DVDs right now.   After all RipIt cannot so there is no lost business for them there.

I understand your point but I have never had an issue with Mac DVDRipper Pro which, while not as elegant as RipIt, never seems to have a problem with the new discs that RipIt does.

@Bruce

Yeah, I hear you. I think it might have to do with the meticulous way RipIt looks over a discs structure before tackling the actual copying process. I'm mostly making excuses for the devs because I really want them to keep going and also to keep up my own morale.
C'mon TLAF! Keep us in the loop at least!

@LazerTag

You totally miss the point. I'm not promoting another product, but if
you've been following this group, you have seen a lot of users who are
concerned about the support of Ripit by TLAF. My preference remains
Ripit, but in the event that TLAF decides to abandon Ripit, I now have
an alternative.

@Grimpickle
You are correct, I paid for my copy of Ripit, just like I paid for
MTR. But anyone who ever used MTR knows that at least for a time, the
developer stopped supporting it. That's when I purchased Ripit, and
I'm glad I did. And anyone who has kids knows that the best way to
protect your $20 investment in a new DVD is to make a backup of it for
them to get their fingerprints and who knows what else all over.

I simply offer a word of help for those who are having difficulty with
Ripit. I don't know about the rest of you, but when I have a problem
with the Current Version of Ripit, I go back to an earlier version and
often get a viable backup with it. I've kept all of my upgrades since
I first purchased Ripit. I am often glad I have saved those older
versions.
