Sorry these are a little non-specific -- no one had pen and paper. Also, sorry for not posting the September meeting. We did meet and discuss a lot of stuff pertaining to how hard it is for people new to the area to understand how to link in to the community -- the value of a website that could consolidate all the companies and artists in order to at the very least see what is here. How RIPE will be/is a great asset to people new to town.
Present at October Meeting:
Rebecca, Jed, Leigh, Neil, and Brandon
Topics discussed:
Leigh gave update on the work-in-progress showings in November. Very exciting stuff especially pertaining to giving people the opportunity to watch pieces in progress and give feedback. Hopeful that it will continue and be a semi-annual happening.
We also talked about the facebook page and whether or not it was helpful/useful for people to use it as advertising, or if it is better used as a way for the community to talk to each other about its needs. IE, the difference between "come to my show" and "I need a lighting designer." There is no desire at this time to create a top down rule about how this should be solved, but it continues to be a question people have. Rebecca also feels that once a website is in place it will be less of an issue.
Website update -- hosting is bought and it's being constructed. WE NEED CONTENT. Send all photos of performance made by you (especially in Rhode Island) to
in...@riperformance.org
We talked about space again. Brandon is newer to town and asked about landlords and people being amenable to theatre folks renting space. I brought up the spreadsheet created several months ago and shared with this google group as a way to share information on space. No one has filled it in and so it is not clear yet that the community wants to share the information they have on landlords and spaces.
We also talked about the calendar shared on this google group and how it would be great if more people updated it as more people are interested in using it.
We talked about the next meeting being hosted at Contemporary Theater Company in South County as a way to invite a more diverse geographic group of theatre folk.
We set the next meeting for Sunday November 18 at 2pm with the hopes that it will be at CTC. But it's TBD until we finalize that date and time with the good people there.
Ask questions! See you soon! Work hard! See shows!
