I searched in community.teamviewer.com and googled. Very little I found. The only official piece of information I spotted was in a tweet by TeamViewer Support and, well, surprisingly due to its length, that was not very insightful.
To answer your questions:
1. The TeamViewer services will make the following functions possible while it is running in the background.
- It allows controlling the remote desktop even though the UAC is active
- It allows incoming connections even though no User is logged on (IF this function is activated in the options)
- It allows continuous connections, even though the user is logged off or changed
- It allows the immediate re-connection after the remote reboot of the computer
- It bundles the network communication of all user sessions. This is required on server systems, on which multiple users are logged in simultaneously (Terminal Servers).
I do not want ANY of those services, or the incredibly unwelcome security hole they represent. How do we disable this unwanted service? It doesn't seem possible in the user interface, so do we have to uninstall the application to close this bug?
Without this service, the software would be limited in only allowing connections when it is running and as the full version is designed to run unattended, the full version doesn't have the option to disable it when installed.
Thanks for your reply. I'm afraid not. It was previously possible to view services and processes on a remote Windows host without opening a remote desktop/screen session. It was an option against the computer entry on my remote host list.
On the General tab, select the TeamViewer service from the Service to protect pull-down list.Since we have installed TeamViewer 9.0 on our machine, this is called TeamViewer 9.Your service should be named similarly, andyou will notice a green circle on the left if the service is already running.
If you wish to be defensive and restart the TeamViewer service at a scheduled time - to keep it "fresh"and reduce the toll of memory leaks and other ill effects - click over to the Monitor tab where we willschedule a regular stop.
We encourage you to edit your TeamViewer entry in Service Protector and review the many othersettings that could help in your environment. For example, send an email when the service fails, check for TeamViewer getting stuckstarting or stopping, and much more.
Trouble protecting the TeamViewer Windows Service?
Free version of TV on Win 10. Supporting remote friends and family that I have put on standard accts without admin access. Because of the hacks last year I'd REALLY like to have the TV service only be active for the handful of minutes a week that I'm fixing something.
I know I can change the TV service to manual startup and I can manually stop the service and start it when I want to connect IF I'm sitting at their computer with my admin password. Without that they can start TV but I still can't connect until that service starts.
Is there a really REALLY simple and secure way for novice users without admin access to have the TV service start when they click on the TV icon and stop when they exit the program? I don't want to leave the service running 24x7 for anyone to probe.
You can check the process list in Windows Task Manager to see what is running. But TeamViewer can also be installed as a Windows service so you might also need to check the service list in the Services tab of Task Manager.
I'm looking for a way to share displays across multible platforms. problem is i only used team-viewer before and i can't get teamviewer to work on arch. I've installed it from aur / git but so far only old versions of teamviewer (v12) work which as it turns out isn't enough to connect to my partners newer version (v15).
So the question is there an alternative program which is cross platform and easy to install (for windows users). if not maybe i should use VM or Wine?
thanks for attention, Indian tech support (:
seth knows what he's doing much better than I do, but if you continue to have problems after you've done what he says, you should take a look at the pinned comment by seyn6gk on the teamviewer AUR page, it talks about the newer versions of TV not working properly without a DE. It doesn't work with startx at the moment.
but as it turns out this isn't enough and installing DM quickly fixed that and teamviewer works flawlessly. kinda sad that i cant use my old terminal login i thought it looked cool );
anyways CASE SOLVED!
* sudo systemctl status teamviewerd to see if it is running.
* It's possible to delete (or better move it to another location in case something goes wrong) .config/teamviewer and .local/share/teamviewer15/ .
* The log file is stored in .local/share/teamviewer15/logfiles/gui.log ; if the program doesn't work then check if there's any issue.
Rossmanith GmbH released the first version of TeamViewer software in 2005, at that time still based on the VNC project.[15] The IT service provider wanted to avoid unnecessary trips to customers and perform tasks such as installing software remotely.[16] The development was very successful and gave rise to TeamViewer GmbH, which today operates as TeamViewer Germany GmbH and is part of TeamViewer AG.[17]
In recent years, the functionality of the software has been optimized in particular for use in large companies.[29] For this purpose, the enterprise variant TeamViewer Tensor was developed.[30] With TeamViewer Pilot,[31] TeamViewer sells software for remote support with augmented reality elements.[32] TeamViewer offers interfaces to other applications and services, for example from Microsoft (Teams),[33][34] Salesforce,[35] and ServiceNow.[36] The solution is available in nearly all countries and supports over 30 languages.[37]
For cancellation of the annual subscriptions, it must be done within 28 days of subscribing to the service or upon the renewal of the license. Otherwise, the license will be automatically renewed for the following year. These renewal terms, contained with the term and conditions, was allegedly 'unclear' and 'predatory' to its customers.[42] This was also separately challenged in California' courts, which found that TeamViewer's disclosure, seeking consent, and acknowledgement of the auto-renewal to be sufficient, thus legal.[43][44]
Incoming and outgoing connections are equally possible via the Internet or local networks. If desired, TeamViewer can run as a Windows system service, which allows unattended access via TeamViewer. There is also a portable version of the software that runs completely without installation, for example via a USB data carrier.[46]
