I've tried several mirroring apps, including AirScreen and a few others. They work perfectly with *literally* everything else (Netflix, Prime, Hulu, Youtube, etc), but when I try them with Apple TV+, it thinks for a minute and then says "Error loading content" and crashes. It's very annoying.

Any other company would have considered that a necessary part the roll out. When Disney+ went live - at the same time as Apple+ - they already had apps ready for every major platform. Heck, even Tubi didn't leave anyone out. Only Apple is big enough that they can afford to be lackadaisical about it.

Not the same thing. This is not just an app for a streaming service, but rather their TV app that consolidates purchases from their marketplace along with their Channels for their streaming service and others. Thus, it requires a different roll out to make it available on other manufacturers platforms. Furthermore, it isn't entirely up to Apple, it is based on both them and Sony (and other manufacturers) coming to an agreement. The app has already been available on the other major streaming devices, and only Samsung was able to come to an agreement to make the app available on their platform at launch. However, they still only saw fit to make it available on models from 2018-present and that will likely be the case for others as well.

Apple actually provide better support for customers and legacy devices than most so that statement doesn't really fly. I would rather not continue this discussion as it is not what these forums are for.

Your iPad would still be operating over Wifi, and mirroring is a lot more intensive when compared to basic airplay. The issue you are experiencing can and often does occur due to interference on the network. As I already stated, another device working does not rule out a network issue.

It wouldn't be the update itself that caused the issue but rather that underlying issues within the network may have come to the surface, those issues can also come at any time . There is no such widespread issue that would be the result of a software issue, and there are always select users who report the exact same thing after each update (including the ones where it would have been working on your system).

Being a network admin you should know what troubleshooting would need to be done and not use anecdotal evidence to try justify blaming the software. Going through equipment, based within the same environment isn't a sound argument either.

As far as 12.1.4 there have been a few select posts in regards to mirroring , just the same as with every other version of IOS going back to the point at which airplay was introduced. When those users have done investigation the issue has been rectified. If there was suddenly a bug introduced there would be countless reports within hours of 12.1.4 being released. Furthermore, there are other users who are able to mirror just fine from a 3rd gen as well as others who can continue to do so from a 2nd gen.

Nowhere in any of your posts did you provide any concrete evidence, and there are a lot of users on here that know how to interpret diagnostic reports and associated data, but I am not going to continue to debate that with you.

I recently purchased an Apple TV 4th Gen and I am using a Macbook Pro Retina late 2013 running Mavericks OS X 10.9.5. I want to mirror my Macbook with Apple TV so that I have a much bigger screen to work with. When I select Apple TV from the Airplay Display option, the icon in the menu bar briefly goes blue then immediately goes black again without ever showing anything on the Apple TV. However, if I use iTunes on my Macbook, I can play videos from the through the Apple TV. I can get audio fine, either through iTunes or even just Safari. I just select Apple TV when I click on the speaker menu icon while holding the option key. But visuals just won't work. Can anyone suggest how I get mirroring to work please? My Apple TV is fully up to date with the latest software, as is my router. I had previously installed Reflector 2 but I have removed this and hunted down any residual files from it too. The Trash is empty and I have restarted Macbook, Apple TV, and router multiple times. For what it's worth, the audio occasionally cuts out, so I assume this is either wifi connectivity (2.4 Ghz, SNR45 according to Wifi Diagnostics Utilities) or lack of processing power (2.4GHz Intel i5, 8GB 1600 MHz DDR3). Help much appreciated. My reason for buying the Apple TV was so I could do this type of mirroring without having to connect with a cable, so I am disappointed to say the least so far.

If your desktop doesn't look good on your HDTV, your HDTV might be using picture-quality enhancements that aren't best for computer images. Check your HDTV manual for information about how to adjust your HDTV settings for use with a computer. Your HDTV might offer a more suitable viewing mode, such as computer mode or game mode. Also try adjusting HDTV settings such as sharpness, detail enhancement, and noise reduction.

Resolved: As per the advice of the Apple support agent, I upgraded from 10.9.5 to 10.13.1 and that appears to have fixed the problem. I now just select Airplay to: Apple TV from the menu bar and it mirrors my MacBook Pro screen to my TV. Success!

The upgrade has caused some totally unrelated problems concerning software I use that requires X11 and xgterm to work properly, but that is for tomorrow's bug hunt... thanks all for your suggestions and help. Hopefully this thread will help others in the same situation.

Hi i_rina, thanks for your suggestions. I've checked all of these and everything should be working, but it does not. To be clear, the icon doesn't disappear - it simply won't stay blue i.e. it is clearly seeing my Apple TV and trying to mirror the screen but drops the connection after one second. This only happens in mirror mode. I can airplay from iTunes just fine, but what I really want to do is mirror the screen. My wifi connection is clear and the memory pressure on my Macbook is well within acceptable limits when I try to do this. It should work. Do you have any other suggestions? I'm really at a loss to know what is going on here. Thanks!

I also have been experiencing issues with trying to AirPlay from my iMac (21.5 late 2013) using High Sierra 10.13.1. Up until two days ago, never any problems except that AirPlay crashes for an unknown reason after 60 min. or so. However, yesterday when I tried to AirPlay from the iMac to my Apple TV 4th Gen., I could clearly hear the audio from the video, but the picture was a screen saver that isn't even on my iMac. I am selecting AirPlay from the top right menu bar of my iMac, and choosing Apple TV. I tried many trouble shooting steps and even called AppleCare. Nothing they could suggest helped resolve the problem, and eventually the senior advisor put me on hold for more than 10 min. and then disconnected without ever returning to the call. I tried again to AirPlay to my Apple TV from my iMac, and discovered that if I went back into the AirPlay menu after choosing Apple TV in the AirPlay menu, and changed the selection in the "AirPlay:Appple TV menu" from "Mirror iMac" (the is what it chose automatically) to "Mirror Apple TV". (AppleCare never suggested that this would be a trouble shooting step to try), but low and behold this got me both audio and video on my Apple TV. You might give this a try. I have zero experience with a MacBook so I don't know if this will work on a MacBook, but since you haven't heard yet from Apple, you could try this option. Maybe it will help. Let me know, please.

This is a huge disappointment for my wife and I. Purchased a new apple watch with the intent of using Fitness+, only to find out that we can't play this from a phone to the big screen TV in the basement. While we have an Apple TV, that is on a different television in the house and there's no reason we should have to purchase new equipment or move our existing Apple TV to a Smart TV that supports Airplay.

Wow, what a HUGE disappointment! Just like another person who replied, my wife & I both have apple watches (v.6) and just subscribed to fitness+ over the weekend. We spent some time going through all the workouts yesterday and were looking forward to this (Monday) morning's workout. And then found out it wouldn't play through our TV with lightning to HDMI!! I thought something was wrong with the cable or something.

EVERY other exercise video we've used, EVERY SINGLE ONE, works with lightning to HDMI. Why is Apple disabling this? Between my wife, me and our 2 kids, we own 4 MacBooks, 4 iPhones, 2 watches, 5 iPads, 4 AirPods pro and various other products, and I am a 15 year+ Apple stockholder. I ask Apple to fix this right away.

We're glad you've come to Apple Support Communities for help with Fitness+ and your devices. It's certainly great to be able to use Fitness+ on the devices that work best for you, so we'd love to help.

And, before the next time you spend hundreds of dollars on something for a specific purpose, it would be behoove you to research and make sure that it works the way you want it to. If you bought the watch from Apple, you have 14 days to return it.

This is so upsetting. I am on hold with customer support right now. I have been a loyal Apple fan all my life. I was so excited to workout with my family this morning and we could not get it to mirror to our TV. I thought it was a technical issue... I cant believe they are actually blocking the ability!

If I look at what I've purchased from Apple over the years, I'd probably be a fanboy - two Apple TVs - older models, half a dozen ipads, a couple mac book airs, half a dozen iphones, apple watch S6. Easily 15K. I have a trial of Fitness+ - I like it - but this one is a DEAL BREAKER - I think your are just being piggish to need to buy a new Apple TV to use this app on a big screen. I will go back to other apps that I can mirror. This restriction is the last straw. Great app but not without the capability to mirror.
