Hello everyone.

Is there any IDE compatible with Ring, but recently updated? I know
VScode has an extension, but it's experimental and not stable.

Best regards,
Antonio F.S.

Hi Antonio,

So far my Ring code works well in VS Code.  Install from VSIX in the VS Code Extensions Menu, and browse for the file from c:\ring\tools\editors\vscode\ring.vsix

You may also like to install Code Runner extension and assign a run shortcut key, and some setup to make things easier:

    "code-runner.runInTerminal": true,
    "code-runner.clearPreviousOutput": true,
    "code-runner.saveFileBeforeRun": true,

This is my settings.json configuration, where I make sure the code runs in Terminal, clear the screen and auto save before run.

Also, check out VS Codium, it is a VS Code fork community version where the Microsoft Telemetry is removed.

Hello Clement.

Thank you very much for your reply; I will look into it immediately.

Sorry to insist, but the official Ring code editor is a marvel that should be extended to compete with other big ones (but only with Ring, as a language). For example, Gambas has its own as well and you could take ideas from it to improve Ring's one.

No lack of incitements! :-) Although I know I can be very insistent, sometimes even too insistent. :-) With old age one becomes more stubborn. :-)

Best regards.

Hello Antonio,

Gambas IDE is powerful! Thanks for sharing.

I have a plan for a new Ring IDE but after delivering Softanza library.

Best,
Mansour

Hello Mansour.

Great! That's great news that's going to make me keep quiet for a while
on this subject. :-) :-)

Thank you very much.

Hello everyone,

I've known about this language for a while, just as general information (no idea how it works). It seems to be the replacement for Visual Basic (or at least that's what their website suggests).
When I see a language with an integrated IDE, it catches my attention, and if it's also RAD, even better. Maybe, along with the Gambas IDE and this one, Mansour can gather some ideas for his project to improve RingNotepad. :-) :-)

Best regards,
Antonio F.S.

Hello Mansour.

It is a pleasure to contribute in whatever way I can, even if it is just by providing information. :-) :-)
