Greetings neighbors and friends,

I wanted to pass along the latest e-mail from our good friend and San
Francisco open space advocate Isabel Wade regarding tomorrow's
Harrison Street Park meeting at 6pm at the Sailors' Union of the
Pacific (450 Harrison Street at 1st Street). I sure hope you can join
us.

Here's Isabel's email in case you're not on the http://www.HarrisonStreetPark.com
email list ....

Just a reminder that our second to last meeting will be held tomorrow
night at the Sailor's Union (enter at 1st and Harrison) from 6-8pm,
including refreshments, of course! We will be looking at some exciting
design concepts that Katy and Cliff have developed based on your
suggestions about park features and then voting on which features we
definitely want in our most likely final plan.

Second, we will be talking about your design ideas for these features!
This is a good chance for you to express your creative ideas about how
the features might look. Third, we will brainstorm about 'sustainable'
features that we might like to see in the park, such as LED lighting,
compost bins etc. Finally, we will discuss security concepts for the
park, and particularly whether to have a fence and what it might look
like.

Don't worry if you can't come as we will put a ballot on the website
Wed morning; this ballot will be up for one week until February 10th.
We'll follow up with another email and let you know when it is up.

See you tomorrow.
Best, Isabel

P.S. Last meeting is February 18th at the South Beach Community
Center, also 6-8 pm

As an aside, the SFMTA has a Translink Steet Team scheduled to hand
out free Translink cards at the Montgomery BART/Muni Metro station on
Tuesday from 4pm until 7pm. Speaking of MUNI/SFMTA, they're having a
couple of town halls in the coming week (see below the asterisks for
their meetings announcement).

**********************************************************
The SFMTA Board of Directors confronts a challenging budget situation
for both the current fiscal year and the next two-year budget cycle.
After layoffs and other cost-cutting measures that began last
November, the SFMTA
still faces a current-year $16.9 million shortfall.

The solutions before the Agency and those impacted by its decisions
are both painful and unpopular.
Proposed solutions include:
• Reduced frequencies and shorter service hours for Muni
• Muni fare increases and parking fee and fine increases

Your opinion counts. Please attend one of the following meetings to
learn more and to provide public comment.

FY 2010 Focus
Town Hall Meetings, One South Van Ness Ave. @ Market St., 2nd Floor
Atrium
Saturday, Feb. 6 - 10 a.m. to noon
Tuesday, Feb. 9 - 6 to 8 p.m.

SFMTA Board Meeting, City Hall Room 400
Tuesday, Feb. 16 - 9 a.m. (public hearing and possible Board action)

If you're curious about the health of the real estate market in San
Francisco, especially the condos along the SoMa waterfront, you should
attend the Monday, February 8th meeting of the South Beach/Rincon/
Mission Bay Neighborhood Association from 6pm - 7pm at the South Beach
Harbor Services Building's Community Room (between Pier 40 and AT&T
Park). The featured speaker is Alan Mark of The Mark Company - arrive
early as the room was packed to the gills last year when he spoke at
the SBRMBNA meeting.

Giants Fan Fest is this Saturday, February 6th from 10am until 3pm at
AT&T Park - in years past, they offered tours of the Giants dugout, a
chance to run the bases, and lotsa autographs from Giants players
(looks like Tim Lincecum is scheduled to be there, if you were
wondering). More info at http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/sf/fan_forum/fanfest.jsp

On Sunday, February 7th, the Vietnamese Tet Festival happens on Larkin
Street between O'Farrell and Eddy Streets from 10am until 6pm. Go
celebrate the Year of the Tiger with San Francisco's burgeoning Little
Saigon neighborhood!

By the way, Michael Yarne from the Mayor's Office of Economic
Development has confirmed he'll come speak to us on March 2nd about a
plethora of legislation from the Mayor's office that would have a big
impact on the timing of infrastructure (money to fix Harrison Street's
sidewalks, money to develop the Guy Place Pocket Park, tree planting,
pedestrian safety measures, etc.) and may also provide developers with
an incentive to make their empty lots (like the one at 375-399 Fremont
Street) into something nice until development can begin. I'm still
working on nailing down a meeting location ... stay tuned!

Have a great week,

Jamie Whitaker
