Greetings neighbors and friends,

The next Rincon Hill Neighborhood Association meeting happens today,
Tuesday, May 4th starting at 6:30 p.m. at The Infinity's Club Lounge
(enter The Infinity's central courtyard from Main Street and walk up
the stairs to the right behind 333 Main Street to enter the Club
Lounge). All neighbors are welcome!

At today's RHNA meeting, we will discuss resources for victims of
domestic violence with Walesa Kanarek from La Casa de las Madres
( http://www.lacasadelasmadres.org/ ), neighborhood crime watches with
Community Patrol USA's Ken Craig
( http://www.trianglemaa.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=Page.viewPage&pageId=951
), learn more about San Francisco Patrol Special Police from Officer
Scott Hart ( http://sfspecialneighborhoodpolicing.org/index.html ),
and hear about the process of hiring Patrol Special Police from our
neighbor and 50 Lansing's Jane Green. IF there is free time (and
interest), we'll briefly talk about the June 8th primary election.
Please join us for this timely discussion about neighborhood safety!

Jessie Square's first Thursday performances return on May 6th starting
at 6pm. Orquesta La Moderna Tradición
will perform this Thursday from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm at Jessie Square
(along Mission Street in front of the gorgeous Contemporary Jewish
Museum and across the street from Yerba Buena Gardens). Orquesta La
Moderna Tradición (Cuban danzón) transports us to an era of sensual
danzones and swinging cha-chas — the music of the Havana social clubs
of the 1950s. Come early for free dance lessons!

Movie night in Mission Bay this Thursday, May 6th - the Disney Pixar
film UP (animation, rated PG) will be shown on the lawn in Koret Quad
at Mission Bay at 7:45pm (runs through 9:16pm). While it lasts,
there'll be free sandwiches from Subway starting at 7p. While we
await a 1,000 seat amphitheater to be built on the western end of the
Transbay Transit Center where we'll hopefully have our own movie
nights, let's join our neighbors at Mission Bay for this community
treat from UCSF Mission Bay. To get there, take the Muni K/T metro
rail train over to the UCSF Mission Bay stop (second stop after 4th
and King), and take the pedestrian promenade into the campus until you
come up to a large, red/brown building with a big lawn in front of it.

Second Saturday - Volunteer drop-in and dog playtime over at the
future dog park on the corner of Beale and Bryant Street this Saturday
from 9am until 11:30am (check the Rincon HIll blog at www.RinconHillSF.org
to confirm the event is a go this month). Help keep the lot cleared
of litter and weeds and/or stop by with your dog so that he/she can
run around without a leash and get some exercise.

After a visit to the neighborhood dog park project on Saturday
morning, head over to Yerba Buena Gardens (lawn along MIssion between
3rd and 4th Streets) for some hawaiian music on May 8th from 1:00pm
until 2:30pm. Back by popular demand, Nā Lei Hulu I Ka Wēkiu (http://
www.naleihulu.org), Patrick Makuakane’s dynamic Hawaiian dance
company, presents a visually captivating performance of hula as a full
theatrical experience. The company will feature a rich blend of
traditional and contemporary forms of hula, showcasing a delightful
combination of signature pieces and audience favorites in the hula
kahiko, hula 'auana, and hula mua styles.

On Sunday, May 9th, the How Weird Street Faire takes over several
blocks with 2nd and Howard being the central spot. The Faire runs
from Noon until 8pm. They still need volunteers to help out, if
you're interested! Learn more at http://howweird.org/

Also on Sunday, May 9th is a performance of Taiwanese Dance at Yerba
Buena Gardens from 1:00pm until 2:30pm.

If you're looking for a music performance, head over to Union Square
for their Jewels in the Square series on Sunday. From 2pm until 4pm
on Sunday, May 9th, MoonAlice featuring GE Smith, Pete Sears, Barry
Sless, Roger & Ann McNamee, Jack
Cassady & John Molo perform. See http://www.unionsquarepark.us/JewelsMay.html
for the full calendar of Wednesday and Sunday performances in Union
Square.

On Monday, May 10th at the South Beach/Rincon/Mission Bay Neighborhood
Association meeting from 6pm until 7pm at the South Beach Harbor
Services Building's Community Room, we welcome the San Francisco
Chronicle's City Hall reporter Rachel Gordon who will discuss upcoming
elections (including our District 6 Supervisor race to replace termed
out Supervisor Chris Daly this November). Hope to see you there!

A couple of Sundays from now, there'll be lots of street closures as
the Bay to Breakers event kicks off in Rincon HIll at Beale and Howard
Streets. http://www.ingbaytobreakers.com
