The events calendar on the RHNA website is on the fritz, so I've
created a RSVP page using Eventbrite.com at http://rhnaapril2010.eventbrite.com/
There you can find the agenda for our Tuesday, April 6, 2010 meeting
and you may RSVP to attend. The meeting will be held at the Sailors'
Union of the Pacific starting at 6pm.
Also mark your calendars for the next South Beach/Rincon/Mission Bay
Neighborhood Association meeting on Monday, April 12th from 6pm until
7pm at the South Beach Harbor Services Building (between Pier 40 and
AT&T Park). I believe we'll hear about Clean Power SF (http://
cleanpowersf.org/ ) among other interesting topics.
As you probably know, Harrison Street is scheduled to get repaved
beginning this week. If you live in a unit facing Harrison Street
west of Main Street, you probably want to be sure to keep your windows/
vents closed during street construction hours. The project will
likely be very messy. I know that the building manager at BayCrest
Towers intends a good scrub down of the building following the
completion of the repaving this summer. If you park a vehicle/
motorcycle/scooter on Harrison Street (or have visitors who usually do
so), I'd highly recommend finding an alternative street to park while
the repaving project is happening.
The final design for the Harrison Street Park (at Fremont and Harrison
Streets) is posted at the project website at http://www.harrisonstreetpark.com/plans.shtml
Now we need to collectively cross our fingers that the project wins
state funding ... we sure could use the green space!
Fill out that 2010 Census form - it is worth thousands of dollars per
resident in federal funding for much-needed public services and
infrastructure! I'm not sure where all the Census folks sent the
forms, but we currently have a pretty abysmal return rate of 23% (find
us on a map at http://2010.census.gov/2010census/take10map/ by typing
in zip code 94105 and choosing the "Local" view). The national average
is 34% ... perhaps there are a lot of seasonal/corporate rental units
empty at the moment? Anyway, please fill it in ... this will help
influence businesses for the next several years who may consider
opening a shop along Folsom Boulevard or other nearby spots.
Next 10 is a nonpartisan organization that educates Californians on
the critical issues affecting life in our state. They have a
"California Budget Challenge" online budget simulation that allows
voters to try resolving the state's budget crisis. The main
organization website address is http://www.next10.org and the budget
simulation tool can be found on their homepage or via a frame on the
San Francisco Chronicle website at http://sfg.ly/cpjSWD
If you like quirky art, you may want to go to 111 Minna Gallery (at
111 Minna Street off of 2nd Street) to check out "The Last Gasp 40th
Anniversary Show: A Who's Who of Lowbrow Art" beginning Thursday,
April 1st (Fool's Day) at 6pm for age 21+ (free - though 111 Minna
would appreciate purchases while there!). http://111minnagallery.com
Speaking of quirky, the Christian holiday of Easter is shared in San
Francisco with the Bring Your Own Big Wheel event. While I've only
seen it over at Lombard's twisty street, it will happen this Sunday
(April 4th at 4pm) on the even twistier Vermont Street at 20th
Street. Be aware that the SFPD is apparently not too kosher with this
event and indicated they would ticket participants. If you're a
spectator, I recommend protective footwear and shin protectors ...

Finally, a recipe! If you've not been to one of the Chow restaurants
(Chow on Church or Park Chow over on 9th Avenue near Lincoln/Golden
Gate Park), you may not know that you're missing one of the most
wonderful desserts ever invented - ginger cake with pumpkin ice
cream! For those who can actually bake, the recipe was published in
yesterday's Chronicle. It is quite addictive, but here ya go ...
