to Rincon Hill
Greetings neighbors and friends,

The Planning Commission meeting agenda in Room 400 at City Hall
tomorrow (Thursday, July 1st) starting at 1:30pm list two Rincon Hill
neighborhood properties. A renewal of the entitlement for 399 Fremont
(at Harrison) is item 15. I've heard that the property owner would
like to plant wild flowers to help improve the looks of the lot while
it awaits development. Adding 11 stories to a current 2-story building
at 562-564 Howard Street is the other property on the agenda from our
neighborhood. I think the residential units should have a statement
in their deeds forewarning buyers that there are several nightclubs
and annual street events (How Weird Street Faire, Bay to Breakers)
that help to enliven and add a sense of safety to the Rincon Hill
neighborhood at hours that may otherwise may find the downtown area
desolate. If you're interested in making comments on either property,
be there tomorrow.

By the way, if you would like a map of currently approved developments
and projects in the design stages along with some articles to help
give you a good understanding of the current health of development in
San Francisco, pick up this week's San Francisco Business Times for a
full run down in the "Structures" pull-out section (issue date June 25
- July 1). I found a copy at Borders over on Powell near Post after
striking out at my usual source, Fog City News on Market. The Mission
Bay Public Library branch carries this periodical as well if you don't
want to buy a copy for $2.

The District 6 Supervisor candidate forum that happened last week is
now available online from our friends at VidSF at
http://vidsf.com/2010/jun/23/district-6-supervisor-forum/ You should
note praise for the Jim Meko website, an introductory video (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtYnK1z0yQ4 ), and mention of his
campaign manager (that's me) by the moderator, Melissa Griffin ....
just sayin'. :)

People in Plazas brings music and other performances to the Rincon
Hill and Financial District neighborhoods. See the schedule of free
performances and their locations at http://www.peopleinplazas.org/

A couple of weeks ago, the Water Emergency Transportation Authority
(WETA) which oversees ferry boat operations in the Bay Area voted to
double the number of ferry routes connecting San Francisco's Ferry
Building to a total of 12 regional destinations. Treasure Island ferry
service is one of those 6 new routes approved by WETA.

The Port sent out this information to its tenants, and it wouldn't be
a bad idea for all of us living/working near the Embarcadero and Ferry
Building to digest it. The following information is pasted between
the ### marks ...

##############
The jury trial of former BART police officer Johannes Mehserle will
soon conclude; and the verdict could be announced at any time.

The Port/City anticipates that regardless of the verdict reached by
the jury, demonstrations and civil disobedience may occur,
particularly in the Civic Center and Embarcadero/Ferry Building areas
of San Francisco.

If you have not gone to SFMOMA to see the new Fisher Collection on
display on the 4th and 5th floors, I highly recommend it. As a matter
of fact, I highly recommend you get a membership at SFMOMA so that you
can revisit the gallery anytime you want for a one year period. I
love going over there on Sundays to read the newspaper and have some
Humphry Slocombe ice cream (Secret Breakfast, yum! Note you can get it
at Public House too ... or go to Humphry Slocombe's store on Harrison
Street at 24th in the Mission).

Speaking of museums, Target Stores sponsors a free weekend at seven
San Francisco museums on the weekend of July 16th through the 18th.
Visit http://target.com/arts for more information.

Two new restaurants have openend this week in the Rincon Hill
neighborhood. For an asian themed lunch, visit Spice Kit at 405
Howard Street (near 1st). For a delectable lunch or dinner, visit
Prospect on Folsom at Spear Street (bottom floor of The Infninity.
Both opened this week for regular hours of operation!

Gold Club, located next door in the Yerba Buena neighborhood,
celebrates its 6th annivarsary on Thursday, July 22nd. Visit
http://www.goldclubsf.com to RSVP for a private party from 7pm until
9pm. Note: In case you didn't already know, Gold Club is a
gentleman's (strip) club that happens to serve food too - who am I to
judge? If you really like the Club, perhaps you should be looking at
the Hawthorne One condominiums located across the street. I'm
kidding ....

There is lots more going on, but I'll just suggest you visit my friend
Jeremy's website http://www.liveSoMa.com to find out about other
activities.
