Howdy neighbors!

Hot off the presses - a new Facebook page has been created to link
those of us interested in helping to make the dog park planned for the
NW corner of Beale and Bryant Streets a great success! Marty just let
me know about it this evening, and I think I was the first "fan" of
the page ... PLEASE go join the page at
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Beale-Bryant-Strs-Dog-Park-Open-Space/123662554340444
and show your support for this grassroots, community powered project!
While you're there, RSVP to come over to the future park site this
Saturday between 9:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. with or without a doggie
to meet and chat with other neighbors and to help tidy the site up a
bit while well-behaved dogs get to run around. Please share the link
to the Facebook page with your SoMa waterfront Facebook friends!

Tuesday is election day ... and you can use this link to find your
polling location if you need to drop off your completed vote-by-mail
ballot or actually vote in-person: http://gispubweb.sfgov.org/website/pollingplace/
Thanks to the growing population of Rincon Hill neighborhood
registered voters, many of us get to stay on Harrison Street to cast
our vote this go around instead of heading off to the South Beach
Harbor Services Building as in years' past. As a matter of fact, the
new polling location is one floor below where I live ... here at
BayCrest Towers (201 Harrison Street at Main Street).

Also on Tuesday, http://www.MoveOn.org members are gathering with
candles at 7p.m. in front of the Ferry Building at Embarcadero Plaza
for a candlelight vigil for the environmental disaster caused by the
oil spew in the Gulf Coast courtesy of British Petroleum's negligence.

Our friends at the San Francisco Giants are holding another Giants
County Fair event between June 11th and June 20th. Learn more online
at http://sanfrancisco.giants.mlb.com/sf/ballpark/countyfair.jsp
Also, visit my good friend Jeremy's http://www.LiveSoMa.com website
for a chance to win one of two pairs of unlimited ride tickets on the
midway at the Giants County Fair - http://www.livesoma.com/2010/06/07/giants-county-fair-giveaway/

Futbol! Goal! Okay, that's about as much soccer talk as I know, but
if you're eager to watch some FIFA World Cup action live from South
Africa, you're in luck! Head to AT&T Park this Saturday for a free
11:30 a.m. viewing on the huge HD centerfield screen of the game
featuring the USA team vs. England's team. Several bars in San
Francisco will be showing many of the FIFA World Cup games, including
Jillian's at the Metreon ( http://sanfrancisco.jbcent.com ) and Public
House ( http://www.publichousesf.com ).

If you're interested in helping to save San Francisco from bankruptcy,
please join me at the campaign kick-off for http://www.SFSmartReform.com
hosted by Public Defender Jeff Adachi this Saturday at 10 a.m. at 910
Harrison Street (Airport Express, I think?). While most politicians
are too cowardly and really just looking out for themselves and their
political career aspirations to support Jeff Adachi's MUCH NEEDED
PENSION REFORMS petition effort, the Howard Dean campaign taught me
that WE have the power to change things for the better for our
communities and do not need the gel-haired types and smiling glad-
handers in order to help save San Francisco from financial ruin. Also,
please "join" or "Like" the Facebook fan page at
http://www.facebook.com/pages/San-Francisco-CA/San-Franciscans-for-Smart-Reform/122513711102177
Volunteers have helped to collect about 20,000 signatures so far, but
we MUST collect another 24,000 signatures or so in about a month's
time to get this long-term solution on the November ballot for San
Francisco voters. If you want to help, call me at 415-935-5810 and
I'll tell you how. I will be collecting signatures every weekend ...
find out where I'm at by following http://www.twitter.com/jamiewhitaker
or http://www.twitter.com/sfvoters By the way, if you want more raw
political opinions from yours truly, I'll be launching my San
Francisco Voters opinion blog soon at http://www.SFVoters.com to give
you my Howard Dean Democrat fiscal conservative and social progressive
straight talk about current events that affect us all.

Back to the neighborhood news .... I am absolutely thrilled to report
that we can anticipate yet another fabulous piece of artwork soon
coming to the space previously occupied by the "Crouching Spider"
sculpture near Pier 14 on The Embarcadero. Pending the Port
Commission's Approval on Tuesday, we will have the Raygun Gothic
Rocket sculpture attracting visitors to the SoMa waterfront starting
sometime in August! It was originally set up for Burning Man ... read
more at The Examiner: http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/Rocket-art-landing-on-SF-waterfront-95747774.html
or check out the work's website at http://www.raygungothicrocket.com/

Mark your calendar for the San Francisco Young Democrats District 6
Supervisor Candidate Forum at the South Beach Harbor Services Building
on June 23rd ... 5:45pm until 6:30pm for appetizers and mingling,
6:30pm is when the candidates we'll be selecting in November will
speak and answer questions. THe event will be carried live via
SFGate.com .... as a disclaimer, I have quit my full-time job as of
May 3rd in order to help my friend Jim Meko run to become our next
Supervisor because he's the best candidate, in my personal opinion
(like I said, tune into http://www.SFvoters.com and http://www.twitter.com/SFVoters
in the near future if you're curious to hear more of my political
opinion .... )

One last note .... This mailing list will be moved from the Google
Group over to Vertical Response (www.verticalresponse.com). As
always, there will be the option for you to opt-out at the bottom of
every email ... and I do try to not bog you down with any more than
one email per week or so.

Please do let me know if you have any news or events coming up you'd
like to share with SoMa waterfront neighbors by emailing the
information to me at Rinco...@Gmail.com
