Dear Neighbors and Friends,

Please see the design drawing for the Block 11a (Folsom Street at
Essex, just west of 1st Street) Supportive Housing development at
http://www.somapride.com/images/Transbay11A_Design.pdf and the
narrative description of the project at http://somapride.com/images/Block11A_Narrative.pdf
This is a preview of the project design that will be presented on
Thursday, February 11th at the Transbay CAC meeting starting at 5:30pm
at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, 2nd floor Conference Room (701
Mission Street at 3rd Street). The one huge fault I see in the
current design is that the most signicant amount of the building's
frontage along Folsom Street (the center fo the Folsom-facing side) is
not retail space as the Transbay Redevelopment Area plan calls for
(see http://www.sfredevelopment.org/index.aspx?page=54 or for
specifics on Folsom Street's retail frontage, see
http://www.sfredevelopment.org/ftp/uploadedfiles/Projects/Transbay%20OSS%20Plan%20-%20Section%202.2.pdf
). With this being the first building greeting folks entering the
Rincon Hill neighborhood's retail store spine along Folsom "Boulevard"
from the west, I expected the entire frontage facing Folsom Street of
this (and the other buildings as they go up) to be bottom-floor retail
space. Please review the materials (thank you to Mike Grisso with SF
Redevelopment Agency for providing the files) and try to attend
Thursday's meetings to ask questions regarding the design of the
building (please try to avoid any urges you may have to complain about
a supportive housing development going up in the Rincon Hill
neighborhood).

There are a few events geared towards kids coming up along the SoMa
waterfront. On Saturday February 27th, a new not-for-profit group
called Open ARMS is hosting a kids event. Please go to
http://openarmssfkidscommunityevent.eventbrite.com/ to learn more
about this event geared towards kids ages 1-8 and their parents.

Mission Bay Families is a group of parents trying to improve resources
for parents and their kids in Mission Bay, but I believe they also
welcome parents and their kids from other SoMa district
neighborhoods. They are going to meet on the third Sunday of each
month at 10:00 am at Axis Cafe at 1201 8th Street. They picked Axis
Cafe because they have a nice out door play area for kids and great
food! Join the Google Group for Mission Bay Families at
http://groups.google.com/group/mission-bay-families to keep up with
Mission Bay Families' latest activities and events.

As part of a strategic planning process, Zeum (at Howard and 4th
Streets) is developing new exhibition experiences and expanding their
target age to include 3-5-year-olds. They need input from as many
parents with kids in that age range to help shape our new direction!
Please take a few minutes to complete this survey - it should take no
more than 10-15 minutes of your time and you'll be entered into a
drawing for a FREE birthday party at Zeum! The survey will be up
through Tuesday, February 16th. Feel free to share the link with other
parents with young kids (even though it says do not copy this link!).

From Gary Pegueros: Here is an update on the two new restaurants
coming in March --Public House (sportsbar-themed) and Mijita (Mexican,
same as one at The Ferry Bldg) -- that are taking the place of Acme
Chophouse at AT&T Park (King Street at Third Street):

The last 333 Harrison Street Park Planning meeting is Thursday,
February 18th at 6pm at the South Beach Harbor Services Building's
Community Room (between Pier 40 and AT&T Park on The Embarcadero).

I've heard that the Temporary Transbay Terminal along Main Street may
being operations in the month of May, but that is only if the
Department of Transportation provides greater details about when and
how the $400 million grant funds from the high-speed rail stimulus
announced at the end of January will be distributed to the Transbay
JPA.
