Youcan scan for driver updates automatically and install them manually with the free version of the Mustek Scanner Driver Update Utility, or complete all necessary driver updates automatically using the premium version.

Click the Update button next to your driver. The correct version will be downloaded and installed automatically. Or, you can click the Update All button at the bottom to automatically download and install the correct version of all the drivers that are missing or out-of-date on your system.

To find the latest driver, including Windows 11 drivers, choose from our list of most popular Mustek Scanner downloads or search our driver archive for the driver that fits your specific Mustek scanner model and your PC's operating system.

After downloading your driver update, you will need to install it. Driver updates come in a variety of file formats with different file extensions. For example, you may have downloaded an EXE, INF, ZIP, or SYS file. Each file type has a slightly different installation procedure to follow. Visit our Driver Support Page to watch helpful step-by-step videos on how to install drivers based on their file extension.

If you have a spare license for some 32-bit version of Windows, you can try putting it on a virtual machine and forwarding the scanner to it, I've been doing it successfully. Linux may work too if it has appropriate drivers, it's worth giving it a try as you don't have to pay for it.

I know how you can trick Win 7 x86 to install XP drivers for your scanner, but I don't think that you can make your scanner to work under Win 7 x64. The option that I have had a chance to try is Hamrick Software's Vuescan and it works with your scanner. But this is not a free solution :(

The idea of this page is to provide information about which Mustek scanner is supported by which SANE backend. Every Mustek scanner should be listed here, at least in a category like "all parport scanners". For Mustek scanners that are not supported currently all available information is listed. Please contact me when there are new scanners or when a scanner is supported by a backend.

ScanMagic 4830S: Looks like it's a Relisys (Teco) scanner in reality. It's an Avec VM3575. It's completely different from the Mustek scanners. I haven't yet a report if it really works with the teco2 backend. SCSI-vendor: [empty]; SCSI-model: Flatbed Scanner; scanner-id: TECO VM3575

Paragon Power Pro: Very similar to the other Pro models. The commands seem to be the same, but scanning doesn't work nevertheless. Be careful when testing, I have one report that after testing only black images could be scanned even after powering down and booting to Windows. SCSI-vendor: SCANNER; SCSI-model: [EMPTY]; scanner-id: MFS-4800SPPRO.

600 II N: Uses its own parport-like card

600 II EP: SCSI-over-parport scanner. Supported in the development version of SANE

600 II ED: unknown, but maybe supported by the development version of SANE

Paragon Page Color MSF1200C: This sheetfed scanner comes with its own ISA card that is similar to the one supplied together with the Paragon 600 II N (same chip Mustek GA 1601). It is not supported by the Mustek backend. If someone has this device and wants to write driver ... The FCC-ID is "HWF96PAGECOLOR".

Open Simple Scan software and connect your scanner, it will detect the scanner and you will able to scan the documents. If the software not detecting the scanner you need to install the driver for it.

Features

The Mustek comes supplied with a built-in transparency adapter, which is capable of scanning 35mm and 120mm/medium format film. The scanner drivers are compatible with Windows XP and Mac OS, though, from our experiences below, we'd argue that "compatible" is a very loose term.

Due to the incompatibility issues that these programs may have with newer operating systems like Windows Vista, we suggest downloading the drivers separately from the Mustek website and using your photo editing software of choice to obtain scans.

The buttons on the front of the scanner intrigued us the most, and we thought that pressing them would elicit some sort of response. Again, another disappointment, as the buttons did nothing. Instead, we resorted to using the scanner interface which mirrored the configuration on the front of the unit.

A plain flatbed scan of an A4 page took approximately 12 seconds from start to finish, after a 40-second warm up time. When we inspected the final result, we were very disappointed. Colours, which on the source page appeared bright, were just muddy in the scan with a layer of noise. We also found that the Mustek struggled with areas of detail, smudging and producing graininess instead.

Next, copying and printing a plain page of A4 black and white text took 24 seconds for the scanner to send the job to the printer, longer than a dedicated copier. The result, while clear, was incredibly faint (not an issue with the printer, but rather the scan quality).

Conclusion

We find it hard to recommend the Mustek in light of our difficulties with the software and the average scan quality. It's a disappointment, considering Mustek used to be a reputable name in scanners. For AU$199.95, we recommend you invest your money elsewhere.

Thank you so much, I followed your instructions and the evil, evil scanner finally works!!! I was about to buy a new one because I couldn't install my old one on my new laptop. What is the secret mustek identity about?!?! Thank you, thank you, if I could find you I would kiss you.
