A user that wants to use a Bluetooth-enabled device brings the device within range of the computer and initiates a connection from the computer to the remote device using the following installation sequence for a client-side profile driver.

The installation application must communicate with the Bluetooth driver stack to create a service GUID for the functionality to expose. Vendors specify the service GUID in the application and in their device installation INF file.

The installation application must call the user-mode API BluetoothSetLocalServiceInfo. Before the application can call this API, the application must have the SE_LOAD_DRIVER_NAME security privilege. The following code example demonstrates how to obtain this privilege. Note that the example doesn't demonstrate error handling.

A profile driver's INF file contains information about a Bluetooth device for client-side installation. For a server-side installation, the INF file specifies a device ID that corresponds to the service GUID created by the installation application. All Bluetooth devices are members of the Bluetooth class. The Bluetooth class installer (Bthci.dll) helps with installing profile drivers.

The Bluetooth driver stack can be restricted to load your profile driver and software to run only on a specific release of a remote device by using Plug and Play IDs in both the remote device and the INF file. The Bluetooth driver stack generates a VID/PID pair only if the device publishes a Plug and Play ID that the stack can detect using SDP. For example:

The Bluetooth driver stack can be restricted to load profile driver and software to run only on a specific local Bluetooth radio by specifying the LOCALMFG tag in the device ID in your INF file. For example:

Wireless technology is becoming more and more popular with each passing day. Many Windows 10 users are looking to ditch wires, and switch to more convenient wireless peripherals. As Bluetooth devices are selling out faster than ever, take the AirPods Pro, for example, more and more people are struggling to turn on Bluetooth and use it on Windows 10.

In this guide, you can find out how to download and install Bluetooth driver windows 10, and fix common issues with them such as Bluetooth not working, or Bluetooth not detecting devices on Windows 10.

Solution 1: Check the status of the Bluetooth driver for Windows 10
Solution 2: Re-enable your Bluetooth driver software in Device Manager
Solution 3: Reinstall your Bluetooth driver - reinstall bluetooth driver Windows 10

If you don't have your Bluetooth drivers yet, you first need to acquire them and properly install them onto your computer. This can be done quite easily, and our guide is here to make sure you take the quickest route to use Bluetooth technology.

If you have a Bluetooth laptop, you most likely already have drivers pre-installed by the device manufacturer. In this case, you might want to check Bluetooth driver updates instead of completely reinstalling them.

Before downloading a Bluetooth driver, you need to get information about your system and note important details. This will ensure that you download the correct Bluetooth drivers compatible with your setup and Bluetooth devices. You may run into wireless connection issues if you download the incorrect drivers.

To install the Bluetooth driver, simply open the file you downloaded in the previous step and follow any on-screen instructions. This process is different for each manufacturer, which means we can't provide an accurate step-by-step guide.

Note that you might require access to a local administrator account to be able to install the driver on your device. This is a security measure in Windows 10 to ensure no incorrect or infected drivers are installed on the computer.

Your Bluetooth version may be important to determine whether or not your drivers are outdated or a version with known bugs, lacking features, or frequent error messages. To check what version of Bluetooth is currently installed on your device, follow the instructions below.

You may not realize that after installing the correct drivers, Bluetooth itself may still be disabled on your computer. If Bluetooth is already enabled on your device, follow the same steps to restart it in order to get it to work properly.

Windows 10 comes with a variety of troubleshooters that aim to automatically solve issues on your computer. This makes solutions more accessible to users. Users have found that the Bluetooth troubleshooter is able to address and fix issues related to wireless issues.

Some users report that simply updating to the newest version release of Windows 10 made any present Bluetooth errors go away. As a bonus, you might even get access to new and exciting features, improved security, and better optimization.

Once you've installed or fixed your Bluetooth drivers, you can now connect your Bluetooth speaker and listen to your favorite sound. If you have a Bluetooth speaker to connect, here is a video that helps you connect the speaker. Watch how to connect Bluetooth speaker on Youtube

Bluetooth is a powerful tool, and you can take full advantage of it now. We hope this piece answered all your questions about installing and fixing your Bluetooth drivers. If you ever suspect that a device isn't working because of your drivers, return here to solve the issue again.

I'm using the Intel driver and support assistant and got the info that a new driver is available for "Intel Wireless Bluetooth fr Windows 10 und Windows 11". But the installation (from the website of the driver and support assisstant) aborts with an error message that my access rights are not sufficient to read "this folder" (but there is no information about what folder is meant) [see attached Screenshot]

We are aware that some users have encountered an installation issue with the error message "..insufficient privileges to read this folder" on Bluetooth driver package 23.20.0. Our team is actively investigating this issue. If you are among those facing this problem, we recommend using the previous version, 23.10.0. instead.

I also have this problem. I tried to give permission to the DSA folder and the file it downloaded there but it just resets back to default again.I also tried changing the install folder location but with same result.

Buenos das. Gracias por la ayuda prestada Freddy4 y por la solucin acertada. Debera ser Intel el que encontrase la solucin porque, espero que este problema no se repita, si se repitiese un problema similar es la Empresa Intel la encargada de su solucin.

the Bluetooth on my computer stopped working all of a sudden. I went to go check in the Bluetooth settings and could not find a place to switch my Bluetooth on or off and couldn't unpair my keyboard either. I had closed my settings to check in the bottom right settings area to see that the Bluetooth toggle does not exist there either anymore. nor does it show the drivers or icon in the device manager. any idea what I could do?

@joe_m4 I am having the same issue, since today morning the bluetooth and wifi icon disappeared from the action tray and there is no toggle to turn on bluetooth in settings either. Please provide a solution

So the driver software you can install from TP link technically works ( -link.com/ca/support/download/ub400/#Driver), but let be honest it is very slow. Audio output to my bluetooth headphones is constatanly out of sync by 1-2 seconds at worst. The real problem with the TP-Link's driver software is that it can only pair with one device at a time, and the pairing process is forced to have to connect only using the bluetooth icon in the taskbar.

@jrmistry That's interesting the 2004 bloke your BT as well. It took out the built in setup, so I tried the external dongle to see what would happen. It didn't work either. The dongle was listed in the printers and devices section with e picture of a headset (as is seen in this thread), however, I was unable to find it listed in the actual device manager., therefore I was unable to update it or choose a different driver.

I had this problem, but found a solution that I hadn't seen explained in full anywhere else (although the idea of updating the driver that some people have mentioned was the clue that let me find the solution).

@JaydenH, I had similar issues and i had to go to Add or remove program and remove CSR Bluetooth Harmony Stack, then scan for hardware changes in device manager and suddenly everything started appearing again. Also check, ctrl + r, type services.msc and see if BluetoothSupportService is running otherwise restart the service and reboot. Hope this helps.

@JaydenH If it is not recognized, please download and install the Bluetooth driver manually from the official website. Try to insert UB400/ UB4A into a different USB port on your computer. For Windows XP/7, try to restart the computer after installing the driver.

@JaydenH A little bit too late, but I run into the same problem: my computer has a faulty integrated BT adapter, and Windows would not recognize the UB400 I got as a replacement. The UB400 will work only after you disable the default adapter. Try disabling the default adapter and rebooting your machine.

After installing Windows 10 I have completely lost my bluetooth option on my laptop. It no longer appears under device manager. Also, I am unable to uninstall the bluetooth program/driver that appears in Control Panel.

In device manager, right click this PC select manage, there should be a section called Bluetooth. It should appear even if all services are disabled. If it is not there I would double check my BIOS/UEFI and make sure the bluetooth adapter is turned on. I have all bluetooth options and apps disabled and the device still shows up although it is also disabled.
