After installing Zotero Standalone, you can install one or more Zotero connectors. Connectors are browser add-ons that allow you to save items directly from your web browser to Zotero Standalone. There are connectors for Google Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. The Firefox connector is special: it is actually a full version of Zotero for Firefox (see Installing Both Clients below).
Zotero is a free product available to anyone. To take advantage of Zotero's full capabilities (including higher file storage limits for PDFs) you must download both the Desktop App AND a browser "connector" (extension/add-on). Using just the browser connector may cause problems with file storage and sharing your Zotero entries with other users. You can find links to both the Desktop App and the Connectors below for a variety of operating systems and browsers:

Make sure you've create the collection folder first, before trying to use the plug-in to save an item to Zotero. There is no way to make it on the fly while using the plug-in with your browser. There are also no audio notifications that an item has been successfully saved to Zotero. You MUST have the Zotero desktop app installed, configured, and running in order to use the plug-ins (see the Quick Start Guide for more information about the desktop app). We do not suggest using the option to "Enable Saving to Online Library" as this caused many errors in our testing with a screen reader. Zotero and the Plug-in had to be uninstalled to remove the errors. We were unable to get the saving to Online Library to work on any browser, or with any operating system. If you activate the plug-in but don't immediately use it, it will eventually disappear without any audio notification. There were some reports of problems using the Zotero connector/plug-in with Firefox. Not all testers had the same issues.
Zotero can bee sync to your Google Docs using the internet browser that has a Zotero connector installed, you will see a Zotero option added to your menu. Interacting with the Zotero functionality for the first time in a document will prompt you to authenticate the plugin with your Google account. Once authenticated you can begin inserting citations from your Zotero libraries.
The solution, for now, is as follows (this assumes that you have the Zotero plugin installed and configured sans PDF support): NB: The symlinks DO NOT survive an update between Firefox versions, so everytime your Firefox is updated you will have to repeat the below process!In your filesystem navigate to /.mozilla/firefox//zoteroCreate the following symlinks and ensure that they are named EXACTLY as described here:
Deleting the Libreoffice folder in /.config does not affect the behavior.
I am running the Zotero connector in Libreoffice and using the Sweet plasma theme and kvantum theme FWIW, but this does not cause any problems on my two other Arch/KDE machines.
