Are humans as a species evolving ?
Most would tend tosay yes. We ARE advancing. But only in the
technological space. The advancement in medical care,
communication technologies, space research, tapping
the nuclear energy, daily use commodities and what not
- is unprecedented. What would have been a fiction
movie 100 years back is the way of life today.

Butwhat does this result into --an evolved species ?
Think again. Advancement is in the intellectual space.
Evolution is more related to maturity in the mental
space. Evolution is marked by the ability of the
species to handle the intellectual advancement and
share it for the good of the entire species. How have
humans collectively as a species handled this
technological advancement ?

Have we eradicated poverty ? Death due to starvation ?
Mal-nutrition ? Genocide ? Atleast eusured basic
rights for all ? A species cannot be called as evolved
when half of its population is fighting hard just to
survive. When one third of its population prefers
itself dead, than alive. Today poverty is the biggest
threat to world peace and the world is trying to
maintain peace by investing in defense. Did you know
that the defense budget of the entire world is $950
billion but the funds needed to ensure basic rights
for the entire planet is $40 billion !!!! To prepare
us to kill each other (or to save ourselves from being
killed as it is usually claimed), we are spending 20
times more money than what is required to feed the
entire planet. Is this a mark of evolution ? Far from
evolution isn't this sheer stupidity? If as a species
we cannot come to an agreement on as simple a thing as
not to kill each other, then how far are we from being
primitive ?

Did you know that the top 225 richest people in the
world earn more than a trillion dollars which is equal
to earnings of the bottom 47% (2.5 -3 BILLION people)
of worlds entire population !!!!. And 4% of the
combined wealth of these 225 people is enough to
ensure basic social service facilities for all. FOR
ALL !!!. The top 3 richest have assets that exceed the
combined GDP of 48 least developed countries!!! Is
there any chance to maintain peace if half the worlds
population lives on less than $2 a day !!!. Result is
violence as you can see rampant in today's world. If
anyway its a fight to survive, they don't mind what
and whom they fight. If anyway they are going to die
they don't feel bad taking you and me along. YES. I
know. They are wrong in thinking so... but neither do
you and me bother that they are dying. What you give
is what you get. Ignoring suffering is as much a form
of violence as inducing it is.

Will things change ? Not as long as the rich get
richer and the poor get poorer. Not as long as
everybody bothers only about themselves. Not as long
as 1 in 9 dies of starvation and 1 in 4 dies of
diseases related to over eating. Not as long as we
don't evolve mentally and not as long as we only get
sophisticated in expressing our primitivity.
