The YubiKey Smart Card Minidriver enables users and administrators to use the native Windows interface for certificate enrollment, managing the YubiKey smart Card PIN, and smart card authentication on Windows.

NOTE: Use the YubiKey Manager to configure both the SmartCard (PIV) functionality of the YubiKey as well as all other YubiKey applications. With this application you only need to install one configuration software for your YubiKey. Note that the Security Key Series are FIDO devices only, if you want to use a YubiKey as a PIV Smartcard then refer to the other types of YubiKeys available.

It means that you can successfully use any of PC/SC compatible devices like the card readers, USB tokens e.t.c., and you may work with any of ISO-7816 compatible smart cards like the GSM SIM cards, EMV payment cards, identity and cryptographic cards and all other types of processor cards except memory cards.

The memory cards are not supported by the Smart Card ToolSet PRO because the PC/SC Specifications 1.0 does not support the memory cards yet. Please read more about the memory cards support on the PC/SC Workgroup F.A.Q.'s page.

If you purchase an EV Code Signing Certificate, one of the requirements is that you use two-factor authentication using a hardware token. And even if you own a regular code signing certificate, good practice is that you protect your private keys using a smart card.

ScSigntool.exe is identical with signtool.exe, except that you will be able to provide the smart card PIN via the command-line or registry when signing files. ScSigntool.exe works by launching signtool.exe with the parameters you provided and then hooking the smart card API.

Hello. I have manage to install all programs for the fingerprint reader and SmartCard reader. The fingerprint works great but i can't use my blank card with the contactless symbol thing near trackpad . 13.56MHz Mifare classic. Can this card reader read 13.56MHz or is it some drivers. In DDP it says "Not Enrolled " and when i click on the tab, it's says "Contactless Smartcard is not decteted" so i go into Device Manager and see it's there and NO Yellow marks on it. What should i do to have it works. Thanks

It didnt help. There was no infromation att all there. I was using the Smart Card ToolSet Pro and was using a some blank card and it did read some info about the card and the software did find the Card Reader but it didnt do anything when i was puting the card to the contactless symbol off this laptop. I think I need to buy a smart card express that have contactless reader function. To the right off this laptop there is a express slot just under the contactless symbol. In March 1979, Michel Hugon from Bull CP8 was the first to design and develop a microprocessor-based card combining a processor and local memory. He invented the computerized smart card.

ISO/IEC 7816 is an international standard for electronic identification cards with contacts, especially smart cards, managed jointly by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).

Smart cards provide ways to securely identify and authenticate the holder and third parties who want access to the card. For example, a cardholder can use a PIN code or biometric data for authentication.

Smart cards offer more security and confidentiality than other financial information or transaction storage vehicles, making them a perfect solution for e-commerce transactions.

As they include a tamper-resistant microprocessor, they have substantial processing power to protect the information and encrypt and execute instructions from specific programs. Here's where smart cards have a massive advantage over magstripe cards.

Memory cards store data and can be viewed as small USB memory sticks with optional security. On the other hand, a microprocessor card can add, delete, and manipulate information in its memory on the card.

These organizations are turning to smart cards to make this information readily available to those who need it while at the same time protecting the privacy of individuals and keeping their informational assets safe from hacking and other unwanted intrusions.

Smart cards also benefit many business applications in B2B and B2C environments. In addition, the smart card's portability and ability to be updated make it a technology well-suited for connecting the virtual and physical worlds and multi-partner card programs.

Multiple applications can be stored on the card, enabling partnering on card programs and providing added convenience to the cardholder. (Payment, loyalty, transport, eID, electronic signature...)
