The trial version can be used as a Pro or Workgroup trial version. The trial version is limited to 30 days and requires an internet connection. (Note: The regular EDIUS Pro full version only needs to be connected to the internet once every 60 days in order to check the license and to look for updates. The Workgroup version works without Internet connection.)
The trial version contains a watermark in the preview and the output. Apart from that, the trial version is equivalent to the EDIUS full version and can therefore be easily unlocked for an unlimited time by using a valid Pro or Workgroup serial number.

Grass Valley has released version 10.20 of its EDIUS X editing solution. A number of really useful functions have been added to the software. As always, EDIUS X users receive the update to version 10.20 free of charge.
Background file conversion in Bin
EDIUS X allows to comfortably perform file conversions into various formats as background processes while continuing editing and working on a project.
Faster processing
EDIUS X speeds up H.265 decoding, waveform generation, operations in complex projects and the rendering of nested sequences. EDIUS X speeds up the initialization of plug-ins and loads projects containing a multitude of QuickTitler titles faster.
Extended Format Support
EDIUS X supports Sony α1 8K XAVC HS files, Canon EOS-1D X Mark III, EOS R5 RAW and IPB files as well as Apple ProRes RAW files recorded with Panasonic DC-S1H/ATOMOS NINJA V.
Extended Metadata Support
EDIUS X now shows metadata of MOV/MP4 files in the bin while the on-screen display can show timeline timecode, source timecode and user bit simultaneously.
Extended Export Support
EDIUS X is capable of exporting MP3 audio files. An option is now available to automatically import exported files into the bin. The EDIUS X Workgroup version also offers extended MXF file profile selection in the MXF exporter settings.
Mync Update
Mync has also been updated with all new EDIUS X formats and features additional import settings as well as enhanced export options. In addition to H.264 and H.265 the user may now also export files as Grass Valley HQX and Apple ProRes.
During the expected lifecycle of around two to three years, EDIUS X users will continue to benefit from the ongoing development of EDIUS X. Further free updates are expected to incorporate AI driven services and team work functions fully leveraging the modular EDIUS X design.
Aimed at an intermediate through advanced level audience, Edius 5 is a powerful real-time editing system offering a number of professional features, which include multi cam editing (up to eight sources), waveform and vector scope capabilities.
The package contains three discs including the Edius 5 Installation DVD, TitleMotion Pro Installation CD and a Bonus Contents DVD. The Bonus DVD includes Corel DVD MovieFactory SE, NewBlue Art /Film /Motion Effects, ProDAD Vitascene/Mercalli, iZotope Audio VST Plugins and a collection of stock footage by Art Beats. Also included are a Quick Start Guide and USB Key.
Once running, the program functioned quite well and provided a good, rapid workflow. It showed strong stability as it ran very solidly through the testing period on a Dell workstation (Intel Core 2 Quad CPU, 4GB RAM, 64-bit Windows Vista Business and ATI Radeon HD 2400 video card), with no hiccups, burps, or stalls of any sort.
Edius 5 aims for the advanced user and for the most part succeeds. It is deficient however in its effects collection and this lack will undoubtedly leave the advanced user wanting. A collection of third party applications has been included in an attempt to compensate for this weakness. The result is a collection of different interfaces and overlapping effects.
The interface is a bit primitive. It continues to use pop-up windows for transitions and effects while Premiere and Final Cut have abandoned these in favor of more efficient integrated panels and customizable workspaces.
In spite of its quirks, Edius 5 is a powerful program with much to offer.
