Premonitionis a 2007 American supernatural psychological thriller directed by Mennan Yapo and starring Sandra Bullock in the lead role, Julian McMahon, Nia Long, and Amber Valletta. The film's plot depicts homemaker Linda experiencing the days surrounding her husband's death in a non-chronological order and attempting to save him from his impending doom.

Jim and Linda Hanson are married with two daughters, Megan and Bridgette, but their relationship is faltering. Just after she listens to his phone message while he's on a business trip, Sheriff Reilly informs her that Jim died in a car accident the previous day. Linda's mother Joanne comes to help, and Linda falls asleep in the living room.

The next day, Jim is again dead, and Linda arrives at his funeral at the same time as the casket. She demands that the funeral director open it to confirm that he is inside; there is a scuffle, and Jim's head rolls out.

At Jim's burial, Linda notices an unknown woman, who flees when approached. Linda finds Dr. Roth's number, but his office is only open on weekdays. Roth later commits her to a mental-health facility. He confides in Reilly that Linda told him Jim was dead the day before the accident, suggesting that she murdered him and scarred Bridgette's face.

The next day Linda awakens in bed with Jim in the shower. After taking the girls to school, she can't find the lithium bottle. She goes to Dr. Roth's office, but he doesn't recognize her, and she tells him about her premonitions. Not believing her, he prescribes her lithium.

As Linda and the girls bring in the laundry from a storm, Bridgette crashes through the glass door, severely cutting her face and hands. Linda rushes her to the emergency room, and when Jim arrives he blames her.

Suddenly, she realizes that her days are unfolding out of order. She creates a calendar of events and records Tuesday as the current day. Before Jim goes to bed, she begs him not to go on the business trip. She makes him promise to wake her on Wednesday morning before he leaves.

On Friday morning, Linda's mom is there. She updates the calendar, then goes to Claire's house, where Claire confesses to the almost-affair. Linda finds an insurance policy in their safe-deposit box Jim had updated two days earlier, tripling the benefits.

The next day, Linda suggests that Jim spend time with the girls while she visits their priest. He talks about other cases where people have had premonitions and explains that she needs to have faith. She then drives to mile marker 220, Jim's accident site, to see what might have happened.

Jim and the girls return home, and Linda insists that he tell them he loves them before bed. Outside in the rain, she pleads with him about their relationship, saying they're running out of time. When lightning strikes a power line, it kills the crow she had found dead previously. That night, she tells him her dream about his death. Jim insists that it was only a dream, and they spend the night together.

Linda wakes up on Wednesday. Jim's note says he has taken the kids to school and will be back tomorrow. Jim is seen at the bank with the insurance agent. Linda finds that their kids are already at school. Jim calls Claire at the hotel and ends it. Then he leaves the message from the beginning of the film.

As Jim nears the accident site, Linda reaches him by cell phone and they reconcile. She tries to get him to avert the accident, but an oncoming fuel-tanker truck jackknives, takes off the car's roof, and explodes, killing both drivers.

Premonition was panned by critics. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes reports that 8% of 161 critics gave the film a positive review, with a rating average of 3.86/10. The site's general consensus is that "Overdosing on flashbacks, and more portentous than profound, the overly obtuse Premonition weakly echoes such twisty classics as Memento, The Sixth Sense, and Groundhog Day."[2] On Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from film critics, the film is considered to have "generally unfavorable reviews" with a rating score of 29 based on 30 critics.[3] Critic James Berardinelli gave the movie 2-1/2-stars (out of five) stating, "There's some interesting material in the film about pre-destination and questions about whether it's possible to change fate."[4] Expressing similar thoughts of blas opaque contributions of the main characters wife Linda Hanson (Sandra Bullock)[5] and husband James Hanson (Julian McMahon).[6] Despite the bad reviews, several critics, including Rex Reed, commended Sandra Bullock for her performance.[7]

That list you ask? Number one was to call family. Number two was to call Martha, my friend for the last 40+ years. Number three was to ask Mary Jo if we could have the memorial service at Grace & Holy Trinity.

The sudden realization that it had come true was the absolute worst feeling I have ever had. I knew before they got there and I have never felt so cold and frightened in my life. Your world just stops and you just go numb.

On the Weds that we learned Billy had died but before we were able to confirm it I found a reading called Anticipatory Grief. I read it at my meeting that night while filled with the worst feeling of dread. I knew. I am not sure that was a premonition but I certainly felt he was gone. ?

But I don't quite see the issue. Is there something about premonition that just doesn't tick the right boxes? I'd say knowing the general direction the killer is coming from is fairly effective in obtaining information.

It's helped saved me from hiding the killer more times than not rather than with Spine Chill that just made me look around, not knowing which direction a killer is coming from, hide, then get hit because I chose a wrong spot to hide.

Its usually because OoO is 100% better and can also be used as a diversionary perk to pull the killer away from areas you dont want him to be. It can still hurt you at times but compared to premonition which doesnt really help unless its a hidden killer than i could see its advantage but theres only a few

You might be looking at Premonition's effects to do the wrong task, by trying to see how close he is. But I'm using Premonition to find out where he is. So I can adjust myself to a point where he may not see me.

For starters, positioning yourself so you don't get seen is easier said than done. You have to know where they're coming from first. No amount of map knowledge that isn't an aura reading will make you 100% certain that the killer you face can give you a cue of some sort to make you move yourself to a spot where you can't be found and be certain of it. Premonition mitigates that need by some degree.

Second, Spine chill being good because "you will know what the only routes the killer can get you" is an argument that can just be used for regular play. They can come from all sorts of directions. It's not a one way, it's omni-directional, and you have to pick a hiding spot that would potentially make the killer miss you. But even knowing the spots and routes they can take to get to you will have spine chill do nothing. All you know is that they're coming to you. You don't know which direction they're coming from, Spine Chill or not.

Also most people just don't hide from the killer and just get in position to loop or hold w and make distance. It doesn't really matter what the exact location is of the killer then. As long as you don't run to them which you can avoid with the terror radius trick mentioned earlier

Yes, it gives you an early warning constantly without much fail without a cooldown. But I'd say that it has an inherent weakness with it requiring the killer to look at the survivor before it tells you that 'Hey, the killer is looking at you'. It says nothing about 'where' the killer is, or saying 'if the killer saw you'. I'm willing to say that Premonition is better in such a regard.

The 'boost' is negligible. Sure, it makes you vault faster, but not by much. Even then, the fast vault is already fast enough, I can only see it being used to slightly reduce the downsides of a medium vault, but any self-respecting player knows better than to do something like that willingly.

If survivors are too lazy to use their eyes, then that's their problem, not the perks'. If survivors are unwilling to use the effects of their perk despite knowing what it does, then they themselves wasted the perk slot. The perk isn't bad because people are deliberately being too lazy about it, I'm willing to say that's what causes it to be 'underrated'. If people are expecting autonomy, then they shouldn't be using this perk in the first place, so you effectively made a counterintuitive statement.

But to outright say it's "better" than Premonition because of the difference in playstyle is a sign of bias. True, I may be biased towards Premonition, but I am by no means saying that it is god-tier. I'm merely saying that it isn't trash, and wanting to find out why Spine Chill is so widely used more than Premonition in most stealth builds.

Experience tells me that no, Spine Chill does nothing in preventing a chase. It makes the chase easier for the survivor. So by that regard, Premonition and Spine Chill shouldn't be compared because the uses they need to be used in are different.

It didn't stop people from running other perks with the same cooldown. Plus, it'd be pretty OP if it constantly told you where the killer was. Just a mere 'blip' of where the killer is can certainly help, cooldown or not.

It's underrated. Granted, not exactly a high-tier but it's in no way a bad perk. Spine Chill avoids the cooldown and lets you know if the killer is looking at you. Premonition has a cooldown, but what it does instead is let you know where the killer is, even when it doesn't look at you, so as a form of surveillance it's pretty useful!

I don't hate it, but however it just is a shadow compared to Spine Chills shining glory. I feel that when you learn the maps quite well you can already read which way the killers approaching with spine chill, on top of that you also know if they are actually coming or if they just glanced over you accidentally. And then even more you get speed bonuses on top of that when it is active which does come in handy for last sec repair/heals/exit gate openings.
