Currently mobile devices cannot perform firmware upgrades. An upgrade is defined as going from a 5 Series Kestrel Sportsman or Kestrel 5700 to a Kestrel 5700 Elite with Applied Ballistics. To upgrade your Kestrel Sportsman or Kestrel 5700, you will need to connect to a Windows or MAC computer. More info can be found on the Kestrel Upgrade packages.

Nielsen-Kellerman (NK), creators and manufacturers of Kestrel Ballistics Weather Meters, announces the release of a firmware update with features often requested by long-range shooters -- increased storage capacity for gun profiles, an expanded bullet library, trace spotting, and privacy PIN code when connecting. This significant update also contains many smaller usability enhancements and affects the Kestrel LiNK Wireless Communication app, the Kestrel 5700 Elite Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics and Kestrel Sportsman Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics.

Trace Spotting
View the new Trace value directly on Range Card for a more precise measurement option. The Trace calculation will display the Mils/MOA above your point of aim where the bullet will reach its peak and thus Trace will be most visible.

Optional Privacy Setting
With the addition of a Privacy PIN code in the Bluetooth menu, unauthorized and accidental connections can be prevented. Plus, protect saved data and enjoy increased security by using this Privacy setting in the Kestrel Ballistics LiNK app.

Expanded Bullet Library
Access new and updated information in the Applied Ballistics bullet library via the Kestrel LiNK Ballistics app for an extensive catalogue of bullet data.

The firmware release is now available via the Kestrel LiNK or Kestrel LiNK Ballistics apps (both Android and iOS). You will be prompted to update your firmware when you connect your Kestrel Ballistics meter to the app. Owners of non-LiNK Kestrel meters can update via Kestrel LiNK for iOS and Windows using the Kestrel USB Data Cable. More information on updating firmware is available at the Kestrel Support Page.

As a TERRAPIN X owner you of course expect a stable Bluetooth connection that reliably transfers data from the TERRAPIN X to compatible devices or apps. Recently TERRAPIN X users made us aware, that they encountered problems when trying to connect their rangefinder to Kestrel weather meters with Applied Ballistics. After installing the now available firmware version 13.02, the connection between your TERRAPIN X and compatible Kestrel weather meters with Applied Ballistics will again perform as it should.

Please note: The Bluetooth dongle does not work with AB Profile loader. The USB Cable is necessary for this connection. This dongle is required to connect to Kestrel LiNK Windows or MAC however for the 5000 Series Kestrels.

LiNK Wireless Dongle for PC or Mac allows wireless communication between any LiNK enabled model in the Kestrel 5 Series and a laptop or computer. Use the dongle and Kestrel LiNK software to install firmware updates and upload logged data from your Kestrel.

This versatile device is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems and installs in any USB port. Its advanced communications capacity enables long-range data exchange with LiNK- enabled products. This dongle is small and lightweight, which makes it easy to transport.

The Kestrel RF transceiver is MIMO-capable from 70 MHz to 6 GHz. The configurable transmit path supports 70 MHz to 6 GHz, and the receiver performance is enhanced by a four-band preselector and wideband low-noise amplifier (LNA).

The Kestrel 5400 uses a 1-inch black globe to gather information about the environment, which isn't possible with current Kestrels. As is true with the original Wet Bulb Globe Temperature apparatus, a temperature sensor is installed inside the globe that will measure the temperature inside. The temperature inside the globe is a function of the ambient air temperature, solar insolation and wind speed.

As you can imagine, a sunny day will make the globe hotter because it's painted black, and colder ambient temperatures will tend to cool off the globe. Lastly, the wind will cause the globe to get closer to the ambient air temperature because it will carry heat away from the globe when the air is cooler or increase heat transfer to the globe if the air is warmer than the globe.

The Kestrel must sit out for a period to allow the globe to adjust to true atmospheric conditions; we recommend a minimum of 7-10 minutes. The globe temperature is then considered along with other measurements, such as ambient temperature, humidity and pressure, to calculate more meaningful measurements, such as Wet Bulb Globe Temperature and Thermal Work Limit.

Simple communication to Windows and Mac computers is provided through the optional LiNK. USB Dongle or USB Data Transfer Cable. Download your data to view, analyze and archive. Enables firmware update of Kestrel 5 series meters.

The Kestrel 5700 sits below the Kestrel 5700 Elite as an affordable full-featured ballistics meter with an easy upgrade path to the 5700 Elite. Offering all the solver capabilities to get you on target well into the trans-sonic range with 3 guns and 1 target available. The 5700 can be upgraded to include the 5700 Elite Applied Ballistics custom drag models and expanded gun storage at any time in the future via a simple firmware installation done on your PC adding the complete set of 5700 Elite long-range features.

Know where your bullet will hit before you pull the trigger. The Kestrel 5700 Ballistics Weather Meter measures wind, altitude and all critical weather and ballistic variables to calculate an accurate aim point for long-range shooting. No more DOPE cards, re-zeroing or guessing at the wind. This all-in-one compact tool combines onsite environmental measurements with a powerful G1/G7 ballistics calculator to deliver precise elevation and windage solutions for any gun, any round, any shot. Get first-shot confidence with the all-in-one, long range shooting solution trusted by long range hunters and shooters.

The Kestrel 5700 has Bluetooth connectivity allowing you to transfer data wirelessly to an iOS (iPhone, iPad) device or Android smartphone or tablet when within range using the Kestrel LiNK Ballistics app (iOS or Android). You can also transfer data wirelessly to a Windows or Mac computer using the optional Kestrel Bluetooth USB Dongle (sold separately). Data can be viewed live on the App up to 100 feet away (line of sight).

Mil-SPEC-810G drop tested with an IP67 waterproof rating the Kestrel 5500AG is designed and constructed to withstand the harsh treatment it will receive in the agricultural industry. The unit comes with a five-year warranty and certificate of conformity as standard.

The dongle and Kestrel LiNK software allows easy uploading of logged data from the LiNK model, as well as firmware updates. It works with Windows and Mac operating systems and connects quickly in a USB port.

I think after building the image for the first time, there is a target folder in your , in that folder go to folder sunxi and edit Makefile, simply replace KERNEL_PATCHVER:=4.14 with KERNEL_PATCHVER:=4.19 and then go back to and then you need to do make menuconfig without changing anything, just save and then build again. It will download the new kernel and build everything again based on the new kernel.

This way I know, but I don't like to directly modify any Makefiles files to be safe from any incompatibility from the source. And I was quite surprised that the Linux version was as a bolean in the menuconfig, but was not able to change it.

@jeff1 Good to know. Yes I've tested this snapshot version on several different boards and WiFi devices and it works. But it's the really latest commit which works, because the exactly next one commit is mac80211: rebase ontop of v4.18.5 which is not compatible with the mentioned drivers and cause the kernel panic.
It's confirmed, that there is not issue with the kernel itself and it works with the latest 4.14.99 kernel too.
