SMART Farmers Collective Project Coordinator

Northeast Organic Farming Association of Rhode Island (NOFA/RI)

Remote - Rhode Island based

Part-time, $27/hr.

*The Project Coordinator is a grant funded, temporary position

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of Rhode Island (NOFA/RI) is looking for someone with a combination of farming and education experience to lead on their upcoming SMART Farmers Collective program!

The SMART Farmers Collective will function as a “community of practice” for new and beginning farmers in RI, pairing each farmer with a coach and offering wrap-around training that combined will improve their farm’s financial viability and tenure. Trainings will focus on two key aspects to improve the financial success of participating farms: (1) Marketing & Finance and (2) Farm Efficiency & Productivity. Trainings and meetings for this curriculum will take place in the off season to best accommodate farmers’ schedules.

The project aims to identify 8 beginning farmers to be in the SMART Farmers Collective.  A group of this size will foster a sense of community, and will enable quality discussions and sharing during our training sessions.  Participants will receive a stipend to encourage their participation in both our training and coaching activities, as well as in follow-up data collection activities.

JOB SUMMARY
The Project Coordinator will be the catalyst for this project, providing the unique opportunity to see a program through from design to evaluation. Responsibilities include but are not limited to farmer recruitment, curriculum development with key stakeholders, schedule coordination, advisor arrangements, tracking metrics, and grant reporting. In light of this, we are looking for someone who can work independently, has exceptional organizational skills and ideally a combination of education and agricultural experience.

The work schedule anticipated is approximately 325 hours over the course of 2 years. The weekly workload will vary depending on the phase of the project timeline – with moderate work during the planning and recruiting phases, increased work during the active coursework and meetings, and lighter work during the mentorship, follow-up, and reporting phases.

To apply, please send your resume to ke...@nofari.org by August 1, 2026. Full job description attached.
