Hi RIEEA Community,
I’m reaching out with an urgent request regarding a legislative threat to environmental education in Rhode Island. Tomorrow, May 12, the Senate Committee will consider S2787, a bill that would directly overturn the recent approval for The Greene School to expand and serve middle school students.
As a social scientist and a parent, I’ve seen the profound impact of this school’s model. My son is currently a freshman there. Some of you may have met him at the RIEEA Youth Climate Conference last November, an experience that, combined with his education at The Greene School, has been instrumental in his growth as a young environmental leader. As he finishes his freshman year, I have to tell you that the environmental leadership he is learning is exceptional. My daughter is eligible to join him when the middle school opens but this bill would effectively take that opportunity away from her—and many other students—by reversing the expansion and capping future growth.
If you value expanding access to high-quality, nature-based, and experiential public education, please take 30 seconds to contact the committee today.
Take Action Before Tomorrow’s Hearing
Thank you for your quick support of our students and the future of environmental literacy in RI.
Best,
Jen Rudolph
