♻️ When I was just a kid in the early 1980s in New York, I distinctly remember when the bottle deposit bill was passed. It was my family's first introduction to recycling and it worked. We collected and returned tons of bottles, something my parents continue doing today! When I moved to RI in 2004, I was a bit horrified that we didn't have a bottle deposit program. Now, 22 years later, I can't help but think - IT'S TIME RHODE ISLAND!! ♻️

Beverage bottles clog storm drains, float into rivers and streams, and break down into microplastic bits that pollute the Bay. There is a solution! States with bottle bills have less litter and higher rates of recycling. Plus, the bills up for consideration this year create revenue for education and outreach efforts so that Rhode Islanders can fully understand and avoid the dangerous consequences of single-use packaging.
Tell them to support S-3012/H-7911 Extended Producer Responsibility For Packaging and Paper Act (aka RI Recycling Reform Act) to fight litter and waste, and put funding towards environmental education.

A huge thank you to our friends at Save The Bay for leading the charge and for putting together this action alert!
