Do you want to serve your community while protecting the environment and getting professional experience with a land conservation nonprofit?
Whether you are passionate about conservation, land access, or sustainable agriculture, TerraCorps is here to help you serve local communities and build professional skills through transformative experiences.
TerraCorps is an AmeriCorps affiliated nonprofit preparing and mobilizing the next generation of emerging leaders committed to making a difference at the community level. We do this by partnering with a network of nonprofits in Massachusetts and Rhode Island focused on community needs related to local land conservation and sustainable farming. These partners act as service sites for a new cohort of AmeriCorps service members annually. Service members are paired with a site supervisor who provides guidance and mentorship while they learn to manage community programs and projects in one of 5 coordinator positions: Community Engagement Coordinators (CEC), Sustainable Agriculture Coordinators (SAC), Land Stewardship Coordinators (LSC), Youth Education Coordinators (YEC), Land Conservation Coordinator (LCC).
Norman Bird Sanctuary is interviewing candidates for a Land Stewardship Coordinator (LSC). The LSC will engage with the Director of Horticulture and Conservation to manage volunteers on community service projects, educate or train individuals in environmental stewardship or environmentally conscious practices, and complete three capacity building projects. Potential projects include:
· Help steward the land by supporting the Properties Team with invasive plant removal from within its diverse ecosystems (grasslands, shrublands, forest, and dunes).
· Assist in our conservation efforts with the many different volunteers who contribute to the mission of the organization (Conservation Crew, community service days, academic partners, etc.).
· Spread awareness about our conservation best practices through service projects and community events such as Harvest Fair, concerts and program-related events.
Local candidates are encouraged to apply. The full position description for the LSC at Norman Bird Sanctuary can be found at TerraCorps Available Member Positions.
