Dear Greene School Community,
We are thrilled to share exciting news: The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) has recommended approval of The Greene School's proposal to expand to include grades 6-8! Commissioner Angélica Infante-Green will present this recommendation to the Council on Elementary and Secondary Education on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, at 5:30 p.m.
A few members of our team (including students!) will attend this meeting to briefly speak in support of the Commissioner’s recommendation. Council members will NOT be voting at this meeting, only discussing, but our hope is that they will vote in support of our expansion at the December Council meeting (date TBD).
First, thank you to everyone who submitted public commentary in writing or through in person testimony earlier this fall. The Council also welcomes public comment, and your voice can make a powerful difference. Here’s how you can submit written comments:
Email your statement to Christine...@ride.ri.gov (see template below to use if helpful)
Deadline for advance review: Submit by 4:00 p.m. on November 18, 2025 to ensure Council members see your comments before the meeting
The evaluator's report concluded with zero essential concerns and highlighted our strong track record, financial readiness, and clear plan. RIDE has determined that our expansion is "academically and economically prudent" and will provide high-quality educational opportunities for Rhode Island students. This is a pivotal moment for our school community. If you believe in our mission and the value of bringing expeditionary learning to middle grade students across Rhode Island, please consider sharing your support with the Council.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
With
gratitude,
The Greene School Leadership Team

OPTIONAL EMAIL TEMPLATE to show support for TGS expansion to the K-12 Council:
Subject: Support for The Greene School Expansion Proposal
Dear Members of the Council on Elementary and Secondary Education,
I am writing to express my strong support for The Greene School's proposal to expand to grades 6-8. At a time when families across Rhode Island are seeking meaningful options for the middle grades, The Greene School offers a proven model that nurtures curiosity, environmental stewardship, and engaged citizenship. This expansion represents an opportunity to bring transformative learning to students at the age when they need it most.
[Choose one or more points that resonate with you:]
As a parent/family member: The Greene School's expeditionary learning model has been transformative for my child. Expanding to middle grades would allow younger students to benefit from this approach during a critical developmental stage.
As a community member: Rhode Island needs more high-quality middle school options. The Greene School's proven track record and mission-driven education would serve families across the state.
As an educator/staff member: I have witnessed firsthand how The Greene School's focus on belonging, environmental literacy, and real-world learning prepares students for success. This model is especially needed at the middle grade level.
The Greene School has earned a five-year charter renewal, improved student outcomes, and demonstrated financial sustainability. I am confident this expansion will provide much-needed educational opportunities for Rhode Island families.
I respectfully urge the Council to approve this expansion proposal. Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
[Name]
