Hello all,
I wanted to share a project I am working on for Spring 2026 and see if anyone would like to participate or help spread the word in their communities. The
City Nature Challenge is an international bioblitz that takes place following Earth Day. This year, the challenge will run from April 24–27 (starting and ending at midnight local time). Participants use iNaturalist, or its partner app for children called SEEK, to identify organisms and get a glimpse into their community’s biodiversity.
I am the Rhode Island state organizer for the second year, and I support the CNC by connecting with individuals and organizations to explore how they can include this event in their existing Earth Week and/or organizational programming. Last year, I worked with school teachers, science professionals, and local non-profits, and I’m hoping to expand my network even further this year. Rhode Island has participated for five years, and last year we had over
450 participants and more than 800 species identified statewide. We are hoping to continue growing those numbers and get even more people involved!
As a participant, the following resources will be available to you through myself and the CNC Global team:
- Free online and in-person iNaturalist trainings
- Free iNaturalist consultations/troubleshooting
- Social media kit (logos and flyers to use for promotion on social media)
- Community service certificates for students who are earning credit
If anyone is interested or would like to meet to learn more about ways they can get involved, please contact me at
