Good Afternoon,


The Rhode Island Flood Mitigation Association (RIFMA) is holding its Annual Conference on Thursday, May 14th, 2026  at University of Rhode Island’s Center for Biotechnology and Life Sciences. 


Our 2026 Conference Committee cordially invites you to submit an abstract for our Student Poster Presentation! Posters may share findings from field investigations, modeling, public outreach, or other research topics. Posters will be on display in the main reception area from 8:00am-4:30 PM. With our wide variety of attendees, many topics fall under the resilience umbrella and we welcome all submissions, including:


  • Lessons learned and best practices for flood mitigation using nature based solutions

  • Objectives of floodplain management to advocate for local, state, and national levels on policy issues

  • Efforts to adopt floodplain management regulations that compliment natural solutions

  • Enhancing awareness of flood resiliency and involving stakeholders in the decision making process

  • Reducing the quantity or improving the quality of stormwater by using natural systems

  • Innovation and technology in the planning, design and development of resilient practices


Abstracts should be submitted using the 2026 Abstract Submission form link. Please refer to the accompanying pdf for details.

Abstract Submission Deadlines

Abstracts must be received no later than midnight on Friday, April 3, 2026. No extensions will be granted without prior approval.

If your abstract is selected for presentation, you will be notified via email no later than Friday, April 10, 2026 . If the abstract has more than one author, the contact person is asked to share the information with the other author(s).
