Dear Ridgeside Residents,

With sympathy, we share the news with you that former long time Ridgeside resident, Steve George, passed away last Sunday while a resident at The Lantern Memory Care where he has lived for about 20 months.

Steve and his wife Priscilla lived on Brookwood Dr.  in what was her mother’s house first and then their house for many years.  Priscilla and Steve cared for both her mother and her brother while living there.

Steve was retired from teaching English at McCallie School where he was also a popular and well-known soccer coach.  There is an annual award named after him at the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame event.  Even in his last years, Steve was always working on soccer plays, thought he had gone to soccer camp when entering The Lantern, could quote T. S. Eliot, R. C. Sproul and the Bible extensively.   He could even sing a few words of hymns in his last days.  He is now absent from the body and present with the Lord.

There will be a celebration of life later in September at First Presbyterian Church where Steve sang and served as choir President.  The choir will sing in his honor at the service.  He was also an Elder of that church.

The details of date and time, as well as full obituary, are forthcoming.

He is survived by a brother and sister-in-law who live in Ooltewah, and several siblings and their families from out of town, as well as many friends, students and neighbors who called him friend.

Thanks be to God.    Respectfully submitted, Janet and Ron Jobe
