Thank you, Jim, for this reminder about funds set aside for security cameras some years back. I'll write the Mayor and request that the commission provide residents an accounting of the monies borrowed for the pool, street lights, and security cameras. Perhaps we can get an update at the next commission meeting.

I was at the City meeting where we approved a massive loan to fund reconstruction of the damaged swimming pool. It is my recollection that the loan amount was approved for three City projects: rebuild the swimming pool; install street lighting; add SECURITY CAMERAS. The first two items came to fruition. What happened to the city wide security cameras? Where did that money go? At the time these decisions were made, local news praised the city of Lookout Mountain for their successful adoption of security cameras to deter crime and catch criminals. While not excited about becoming a nanny state (or city), Chattanooga and other local jurisdictions have had success with strategic placement of cameras. Just yesterday, I observed a non-resident come off Shallowford Road on an illegal scooter (trail bike looking thing without license plate) and proceed down Ridgeside at a high rate of speed and noise, then return up and back onto Shallower. Luckily, no dogs, cats, walkers, or kids in this joyrider’s way. Security cameras would give us, and our police force, a powerful weapon to deter and deal with these recent incidents. If my recall of facts or interpretation of events is incorrect, please accept my apology. But my opinion is that we should have a few security cameras at key entryways.
