Hello Friends and Members,

Over the last six or seven years, the V-COM has morphed into the club that simply is what it is. The original vision was fulfilled enroute and all have enjoyed a good ride.

I have been thinking tonight and would like to put this to an open discussion with an ultimate (no hurry) consenscus.

The proposal is simple. It has to do with a fresh new name change that invites the very people who are already the core group and becomes more of an open door to anything on two  or three wheels. From V-COM to R-COM...Rider's Club of Monterey.

I love my Vespa but there are limitations. A new name with a renewed vision to invite the local motorcyclists to have a place to call home. No dues, no President or Czar. A simple one ride per month and continue our Sunday coffee at Stone Creek Starbucks.

I would be interested in hearing from you also if you object and just plain opposed to a new venue. Feel free to voice your opinion whatever it is. Remember this is simply an open discussion at this point.

Ride on, ride on.

Roger, that is a good idea.  I think one of the things that has stood out to people in the last couple years, as they see the group on Sundays, is the diversity of machines.  Embracing that seems natural.  I also am in favor of the one ride per month.  Most people, especially newbies, are excited about riding their scoots and bikes.  Sharing that experience makes it fun for everyone.  I haven't been riding much lately.  Been out of town quite a bit on the weekends, but home now and looking to ride more.  See you soon.

I don't consider myself a voting member - maybe a 'visiting-member'. But I will say that I am all for diversity and respect for different member's rides, as long as safety for all is taken into consideration.

Some of you know that we changed the name of the Santa Cruz club, because we actually had heard from some scooter riders that didn't think they could join because they didn't have a Vespa. We wanted to include scooters of any kind. We have had the occasional small motorcycle ride with us, but they usually don't like the slightly slower scooter pace. Of course, as there are more and more newer, larger scoots, this pace seems to be increasing.

The most important part is just being with people who love to ride.

R Scooter Club > Vespa Club of Monterey > Riders Club of Monterey...!

Sounds like a good, first start and I say we kick the can to flush
out any other thoughts before making an announcement. Seems like a
core group of people are liking the idea.
Thanks for your comments and support.

I agree, Roger. We really did have some grand times and rides and lots of fun as a group "Born to Scoot", but the group has changed and I think it's time we drop the "Vespa" reference.

My first thought, well, second... maybe third after reading the other responses, was that R-COM still might not capture what this thing is today. What are your (collective) thoughts on a radical name change to something like "Take Two"?

Sorry I've missed so many meets and rides, but I've had a lens replacement in my left peeper and the right one is coming up this Thursday. Thought I'd stay off the scoot until things get good and solidly in place.

Ride safe,

Ken

Without kicking the can further, it really appears to be unanimous from amongst those who have held core and some newer folk as well. I am hearing, good idea, let's do it from all the respondants. Mayor Jerry was visiting MST today and stopped by my office. He also felt the same as all of you.

Lamar and Janet who continue to be our unofficially, official chairpersons have also chimed in with a yea vote. All who have any connection with VCOM are on the Google list unless their emails changed. I say that because the opportunity to object is here.

The RCOM was considered because it is simple, keeps out the motor scooter and motorcycle brand names, is descriptive of anyone on a motorized cycle as "a Rider" and keeps nearly all of the other letters from V COM!

To keep things flowing and open discussion, if you want to put another name like Take Two, or something else, just throw out your email vote and we'll see where it takes us.

I am excited about our emerging from the cacoon and continue to enjoy new rides and new friendships.

Yours,

Roger

Hi Ken,

I like the "Take Two Rider's Club"  short would be "TT riders".  That's cool.

I've always thought that a good name for a local riders' pub or club might include Highway 1 in some way.  Since there is so much history and world wide recognition of Highway 1.   Something like "Highway 1 Rider's Club".  H1R, or H1RC would be an easy acronym.  Or maybe, to be inclusive, "Central Coast Rider's Club"  CCR, or CC Riders.  That sounds good.  there is a two wheel group in Colorado at ccriders.org, but I doubt they'd mind a West Coast branch.
