Fellow Bike Riders,

The Ride of Silence is just a few days away and the weather forecast
looks very promising for the day of the ride; in fact, the entire week
looks great. If you need other reasons to take advantage of the nice
weather, May is National Bike Month and this week (May 17-21, 2010) is
National Bike to Work Week with Friday, May 21, 2010 being National
Bike to Work Day. It is not merely coincidence that the Ride of
Silence happens right in the middle of this national event. The Ride
of Silence aims to raise the awareness of motorists, police and city
officials that cyclists have a legal right to the public roadways. The
ride is also a chance to show respect for those who have been killed
or injured.

The Ride of Silence-Harbor Springs route has been finalized with some
minor detours around the current road construction. The route will be
generally within the Harbor Springs city limits and areas just west of
town. Here is the planned route with turn by turn directions:

Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at 7:00pm we will begin from the parking lot
of the Harbormaster office, (250 East Bay St., Harbor Springs, MI)
will travel east on Bay St, left on Zoll St, Left on Main St, Left on
Gardner St, Right on Bay St, Right on Hankey St, Right on Traverse St,
Right on Third St, Left on State St/M-119 to the West Traverse
Township Hall, Right on Lake St returning to M-119 (near Bay Bluffs)
Right on M-119/Main St, Left on Spring St and returning to the Start/
Finish area. This route is approximately 8.5 miles and should take
about 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete.

The ride is free and open to everyone with a bike and a helmet. Please
pass this along to anyone you know that owns or rides a bike and that
may wish to join us. I want to thank you for your support of the Ride
of Silence and I am excited to see all of you there this Wednesday.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or would like
to volunteer your help.

Sincerely,

Chris Benson
