Giving & Grants
August, 2022 Take action to create positive change locally and globally
The power of Rotary scholarships
Thanks to the generosity and support of Rotary members, thousands of students receive scholarships each year, many of which are funded through district and global grants. While pursuing their studies, many Rotary Scholars also take advantage of one of Rotary’s strengths — the opportunity to build their networks. Meet four Rotary Scholars and learn how the connections they’ve made through Rotary are helping them change the world.
GIVING UPDATES
Raise for Rotary celebrates second anniversary

Raise for Rotary, The Rotary Foundation’s peer-to-peer fundraising tool, is celebrating two years of doing more good. Since it launched in July 2020, Raise for Rotary has hosted more than 1,400 custom pages for fundraisers all over the world. These have raised more than US$1 million for the World Fund, the PolioPlus Fund, the Disaster Response Fund, and Rotary’s areas of focus. The platform is available worldwide in English and accepts U.S., Australian, and Canadian currencies, and there are plans to add more currencies and language options.

Share in the success and visit rotary.org/raise for ideas and tips for creating your own personalized fundraiser. For more information, contact ra...@rotary.org.

Expanding philanthropic opportunities for Rotaractors

Changes to the Rotaract Giving Certificate will give Rotaract clubs more flexibility in earning this recognition for donations to The Rotary Foundation. Beginning this Rotary year, clubs whose members contribute a total of at least US$100 to the Foundation in a given year will receive the Rotaract Giving Certificate. There is no longer a minimum number of members who must participate, and members of Rotaract clubs can contribute as a group, individually, or by collecting funds through Raise for Rotary. This gives more Rotaractors the opportunity to engage with us philanthropically and to contribute in the ways that are easiest for them.

In 2019-20, 147 clubs earned the certificate and raised $42,455, and in 2020-21, 225 clubs received the recognition and raised $66,922. If you have questions about the Rotaract Giving Certificate, please email annua...@rotary.org.

GRANT UPDATES
Disaster response grants for Ukraine and for natural disasters

Districts can apply for expedited disaster response grants to provide relief to people affected by the war in Ukraine. These grants can be used for things such as water, food, shelter, medicine, and clothing. The Rotary district in Ukraine and the districts that border Ukraine can apply for grants of up to $100,000 each from the Disaster Response Fund. Other districts can apply for grants of up to $25,000 to support local relief efforts or to partner with a club or district in Ukraine or a neighboring country to send relief supplies there. Multiple districts may combine their grants to fund larger projects and shipments. You can now apply for these grants until 31 December.

Disaster response grants are also available to provide relief after natural disasters in all Rotary districts. For either use, districts can apply for one grant at a time. They can apply for another grant as soon as the previous grant report is completed and the grant is closed.

Use your district grant funds

Did you know that district grants can be used to fund a variety of activities both in your community and elsewhere? In a recent survey of district Rotary Foundation chairs, over 95% of respondents said that their district had used district grants to support local projects. Approximately one-third of respondents said that they had used district grants to support activities that are not eligible under global grants, including the construction of schools and low-cost shelters and scholarships for secondary school and undergraduate students. If you’re considering applying for a global grant, you can also use district grants to fund a community assessment or send Rotary members to a project fair. Learn more about district grants and the ways they can help your district make a difference in the world.

RESOURCES & REFERENCE
Grant management recertification and qualification

The Grant Management Seminar learning plan and Grant Management Recertification course have been updated and are available in Rotary’s Learning Center. You can use these online courses as part of the club qualification process. Remember that your club must qualify each year if you plan to apply for global grants. Districts that choose to hold their own grant management seminars can use the revised Grant Management Seminar Leader’s Guide to plan and conduct the seminar.

Remember that Rotaract clubs are now able to apply for global grants. District leaders should invite Rotaract members to participate in grant management seminars so their clubs can be qualified.
