Time: 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm

Presenter:
Philip Burdette
Software Engineering Institute

Title:
Cyber Security: Why Should I Care About Malware?

Abstract:
The prevalence of malicious code on corporate and home networks
is skyrocketing as the number of internet connected devices
increases. This talk defines different categories of malware and
explains how various types of malware may affect your finances
and privacy. We also address the costs of analyzing malware and
the ethical considerations related to analysis disclosure. In an
attempt to prepare Allegheny students for their lives after
graduation, the talk closes with insights about the differences
between academia and the professional workplace.

Presenter Biography:
Phil leads the Tactical Analysis team, which is part of the
Malicious Code team at CERT. Mr. Burdette is responsible for
coordinating analysis and collection efforts, supporting federal
incident response teams, and reverse engineering request driven
malware. He holds a BS in Applied Computing from Allegheny
College and a MS in Information Systems Management from Carnegie
Mellon University's Heinz College.

All are welcome to attend!
