Mainframe Cobol Developer

New York City NY

36+ month/ Contract

two (2) Cobol Developers (“developers”) to work with the Information Technology (IT) Division for a period up to 36 months.

 

The developers will primarily be responsible for developing an application in the mainframe environment using VSAM, DB2 and JCL. The candidates should have had exposure to a broad spectrum of technology with working knowledge of application development in the distributed environment, including Object Oriented Programming.

 

The developers must be available to work a minimum of 40 hours per week.

 

1.                    

Mandatory Skills: candidates must meet all the requirements below to be considered for this position.

Minimum of five (5) years of experience developing applications using Cobol for CICS and batch programs.

Superior proficiency with mainframe applications built with JCL, COBOL and CICS.

Experience working with VSAM files and DB2, integrating existing designs with new requirements.

Experience working with stored procedures and SQL in MS SQL 2005 or above.

Strong experience developing in Mainframe environment resolving complex and conflicting design issues.

Demonstrated ability to quickly understand complex mainframe systems.

Proven ability to work in a high-pressure environment.

Exceptional presentation and organizational skills.

High written and oral communication skills.

 

2.                    

Preferred Experience:

 

Exposure to Object Oriented programming and developing applications in Java or .NET Framework 4.0 and above.

Good familiarity with MQ Series VSAM and IMS.

Experience with Vision Report.

Experience working in a VSE mainframe environment.

 

3.                    

Assumptions Regarding Consultant Tasks and Deliverables

 

The developers shall provide application design and development consultant services to NYCERS for the completion of NYCERS’ ongoing business process improvement program. The following descriptions and deliverables shall apply:

 

Role: Developing applications in a Mainframe environment with integration to distributed environment, resolving complex and conflicting design issues.

Objective: To analyze and improve existing business processes with application automation where possible.

Deliverables: The developer is responsible for the following:

Analyze business requirements and design applications. Modify applications improving the existing business processes. Execute cleanups from production data analysis. Monitor various system processes as assigned. Ensure complete and accurate issue tracking and reporting. Escalate production timelines to meet client requests.

Identify production issues impacting code modules.
