Thanks for the replies. I have no doubt that the croc clip mods themselves are fine, but it just seems that my machine doesn't want to play ball with them.
The first croc clip mod that wouldn't work was a G.I. connection, and I now have a shooter lane mod that connects to one of THE POWER flasher units by croc clips on TAF, but in both cases, no response whatsover.
Are there any common issues with the pinball machines that can cause incompatability with the croc connections?

I would get a secondary switch mode power supply and put it on the mains after the cabinet switch. Then properly terminate the connectors to it. That way you are not stressing the original power supply and connecting things with gator clips.

What he said! Try another socket and/or reverse the clips. By touching it to a 9v battery, at least you know the LEDs work. However, the mod may be wired improperly and may not have been wired properly to run off dc current. It may have the resistor wired incorrectly or may not have one at all, or the LEDs are the wrong type.

I'm new to owning a pin as I finally got round to buying the TAF i've always wanted back in February, so I'm learning as I go. Some of the mods I've bought have croc clips, whereas others I've bought have had molex adapters, which I've been happier with. Are the molex connectors better than using croc clips, or can they still cause problems?

Molex connectors are definitely better when they are available for a specific mod. They are very easy to install. I always list the type of connections that my mods use. Those that use clips include enough wire that if desired you could cut the clip off and solder which would provide a better connection. But again, never had an issue, it is up to you which way to go. A lot of people are not comfortable doing that so I always provide easy connections.

Let's not get too confused here. The alligator clips do not "cause problems" and are fine for people to use in a machine. The problems might be that they fall off over time and need to be reattached. It's not like you install a mod with these and your machine blows up because it used alligator clips. My guess is your mods are not working because the leds in the mods are polarized and you have the clips on backwards.

I would not recommend using alligator clips as a permanent connector. When they slip off they can cause things to short and might cause issues. I have seen them fall off due to vibration and cause blown fuses and sometimes board issues. I always solder or use a connector to attach mods. Just much better piece of mind IMO than worrying when it will vibrate off and blow something.
Also, the connection from an alligator clip might not be as solid as if it is attached with a connector or soldered. so the mod might not work consistently depending on if the connection is tight.

I totally see your point there. The first few mods I bought were Croc clip and they stay permanently on. The first few worked fine, then i had one that just wouldnt work, so the supplier incorperated it into another mod via molex. I bought some more that were interactive with game play, and they were all molex, which I much prefer. This one I'm having trouble with now is also interactive, so I thought it would also be a molex, but alas, dratted Croc clips again! And aparrantly this one can't be changed to molex.

Get your mod working first with the clips, then if you want consider changing the connection. Personally, I've never had an issue with a clip falling off, it's not like the playfield is being slammed down. Just make sure any extra wire is secure so it doesn't catch anything.

This is a Fused Crocodile Clip for the ELITEpro series and can be used in place of the standard (non-fused) crocodile clip. This clip is compatible with the ELITEpro XC, ELITEpro SP, and legacy ELITEpro models.

The heavy duty crocodile clip is well suited to robust working conditions like offshore and remote installations as well as automotive workshops where diagnostics are often continuous and hard wearing on test components.

A replacement set of strong metal sofa connection joiners with an excellent clamp grip. These sturdy clips can be mounted in various positions to suit the lounge or situation. Modular sectional sofas require a linking system to hold the terminals together and stop them separating, this set is the correct kit for this purpose.

A crocodile clip or alligator clip[1] is a plier-like spring-tensioned metal clip with elongated, serrated jaws that is used for creating a temporary electrical connection. This simple mechanical device gets its name from the resemblance of its serrated jaws to the toothed jaws of a crocodile or alligator. It is used to clamp and grab onto a bare electrical cable to a lead on a battery or some other electrical component. Functioning much like a spring-loaded clothespin, the clip's tapered, serrated jaws are forced together by a spring to grip an object. When manufactured for electronics testing and evaluation, one jaw of the clip is typically permanently crimped or soldered to a wire, or is bent to form the inner tubular contact of a 4 mm (0.16 in) female banana jack, enabling quick non-permanent connection between a circuit under test and laboratory equipment or to another electrical circuit. The clip is typically covered by a plastic shroud or "boot" to prevent accidental short-circuits.

The United States Defense Logistics Agency specifies several types of electrical clips in Commercial Item Description (CID) A-A-59466. In this CID document, crocodile clips are designated type CC, alligator clips are designated types TCx, and other types of electrical clips have various other, unique designations.[2]

A Kelvin clip is a special form of crocodile clip. The jaws of a Kelvin clip are insulated from each other, allowing two isolated wires to connect to a single test point. This enables 4-wire measurement of circuits with very low resistances.

These heavy-duty designed crocodile clips are a hair stylists most essential tool. Perfect for holding large hair sections in place during coloring, cutting or styling. Work with wet or dry hair of all types. Ergonomic finger rests help stylists work quickly, without fumbling as they move these clips around in a clients hair. Perfect for at home styling as well!

For some of our lighting kits we have heavy duty crocodile clips to attach gels to barn doors. These metal clips are the normal sort you might attach a cable to the car battery but are useful for lighting grip too.

This 12v DC Croc Clip Adapter allows you to connect your PAC Pet Fence Control Unit directly to car battery terminal clips for power. The cable is 6ft/1.8m in length. Ideal when you are on the move (in your campervan, motorhome, caravan or tent) take your PAC Pet Fence System with you. Pull some boundary fence wire through a garden hose, so when you get to your holiday home or campsite, just lay out the hose in the shape or around the area that you want to contain in (if moving location in your camper, just roll up the hose until next time). Secured the dog fence wire using standard Plastic Tent Pegs. Our top tip is to charge the dog collar fully before you leave home as it is less likely you will have to charge it again while on the move.

Crocodile clips, also known as alligator clips, are spring loaded clips made from metal. Crocodile clips are typically serrated and have small teeth. Discover more about the different types of crocodile clips and their uses in our crocodile clips guide.

Crocodile clips and alligator clips are most commonly used for making temporary electrical connections. Clips can be used to connect two wires or to connect one lead directly to a device. They are incredibly useful in laboratories or experimental circuits. They are often used in educational settings to help demonstrate light bulbs, circuitry and batteries.

Crocodile clips and alligator clips can also be used for holding identification badges onto lanyards, or for dentistry bibs. They are also utilised by hobbyists to hold things together for gluing or modelling.

Larger sized crocodile clips are typically used in the automotive industry. They can also be referred to as plier clips, plier style clips or battery clamps. Plier clips can be used for jumper cables, battery chargers and welding applications. They are constructed from materials with low electrical resistance such as solid copper and are insulated.

On some probes the plastic shielding on the tip is removable. It may be that you need to remove it to use the croc clip. It may also be that the vendor screwed up and shippped clips that were not compatible with the test leads.

If the leads you show are the standard ones then your ones have an additional sleeve on the end - it could be that someone has previously attached the leads to the clips and broken them when trying to remove them.
